State House official Peter Onwubuariri dies at 48

A senior official of the State House, Peter Onwubuariri, has died in Kano after a prolonged illness.

Onwubuariri, who served as Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations at the Presidency, died on Monday at the age of 48.

His wife, Catherine Ezinna Onwubuariri, confirmed his death.

The late journalist had reportedly been receiving treatment at the Kano Cancer Centre for about a month under the Kano State Government’s treatment authorisation before his death.

His remains were released on Tuesday from the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for transportation to Owerri, Imo State, where he will be buried.

The body was formally handed over to Oche Echeija Egwa, Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations, on behalf of the Presidential Spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.

The handover was conducted by Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, spokesperson to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

In a condolence message issued through his spokesperson, Governor Yusuf described Onwubuariri as “a thoroughbred professional who contributed immensely to presidential reputation management over the years.”

The governor commiserated with President Bola Tinubu, the Presidential Media Unit and the deceased’s family over the loss.

Onwubuariri, a former staff member of the News Agency of Nigeria, was regarded as an experienced journalist who dedicated several years to the profession and public service.
