OSOGBO — In a stirring open letter blending pastoral counsel with direct political admonition, the Bishop of the Diocese of Ajayi Crowther (Anglican Communion), Rt. Revd. Collins Olufemi Babalola, PhD, has called on Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, to rise above partisan calculations and cement his legacy as a statesman.

Writing both as a Modakeke-born indigene of Osun State and an ecclesiastical leader, Bishop Babalola congratulated Governor Adeleke on his fiercely contested electoral triumph, attributing the victory to the governor’s administrative track record, political resilience, family support, and unwavering public faith.

“You have never been ashamed to acknowledge and worship God publicly. You have sung to Him, danced before Him and openly celebrated His goodness… But Scripture reminds us: ‘Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labour in vain.'”

Looking ahead to the 2027 political horizon, Bishop Babalola urged Governor Adeleke not to compromise democratic principles for short-term political expediency or party alliances.

Drawing directly from the governor’s own political battles, the bishop emphasized the necessity of upholding free, fair, and credible elections for all Nigerians:
The People First: “Above every political interest must stand the interest of the people and the integrity of Nigeria’s democratic process.”
Principle Over Expediency: “What you resisted when it was used against you should not become acceptable merely because it may benefit you or someone you support tomorrow. That is the difference between a politician and a statesman.”
Uncompromising Integrity: “Do not allow political alliances to become chains around your conscience… Let the ballot speak. Let the people decide.”

Bishop Collins further reminded Governor Adeleke that the celebrations of victory are fleeting, and that history will ultimately judge his stewardship by how he wielded executive authority.

The letter concluded with a challenge on leadership and character:
Power for Service: Use authority for the common good and democratic consolidation rather than personal aggrandizement or political retribution.
Humility in Governance: Match his public praise and dancing before God with a humble, service-driven administration.
Discerning Leadership: Exercise the wisdom to distinguish genuine supporters from those merely attracted to the perks of office.

Bishop Babalola closed his letter with prayers for continued peace, prosperity, and development across Osun State, urging Governor Adeleke to leave a name synonymous with democratic protection and servant leadership.
