Topic: DO NOT DESERT THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST
Text: Galatians 1:6-10
1:6 I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel,
1:7 which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ.
1:8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.
1:9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.
1:10For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.
STUDY:
One of the central discussions of Paul in his epistle to the Galatians is the sufficiency of faith in Jesus Christ to obtain the salvation of God. The mention of a ‘different gospel’ or ‘another gospel’ refers simply to the addition of the Jewish rite of circumcision and other demands of Jewish laws on the Gentiles who became followers of Christ, by some overzealous preachers of the time. In addition, these preachers held that the Jewish Christians must still continue to observe all the required Jewish laws (Acts 15:1-5). Paul maintained that it does not matter who the preacher is, there is no other gospel apart from that which presents Jesus Christ as the sufficient Saviour of mankind. He stressed that faith in Jesus Christ alone guarantees justification (Gal. 3:15&16).
Beloved, there are still preachers today who mislead people and drag them into bondage rather than the liberty which Jesus Christ brought to the world. As Christians, we must understand that Jesus Christ paid the supreme price of His life to obtain eternal salvation for us. The law and its observance could not deliver mankind from sin and the grip of Satan. This was the reason Jesus gave Himself for our deliverance. You are not supposed to throw yourself into any bondage as a result of ‘another gospel.’ You have access to God’s abundant treasure by your faith In Jesus Christ (Rom. 5:1&2). No more, no less. Do not turn away from the gospel of Christ or allow someone to get you off the track of genuine Christian faith.
Prayer:
Father; please help me to hold to my faith in Jesus Christ. Amen.
