Bandits launched a deadly attack on the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) in Maga, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, on November 16, 2025, resulting in the tragic death of the school’s Vice Principal and the abduction of 25 students.

Sources confirmed that the attackers stormed the school premises, killing the Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, who was reportedly shot while attempting to protect the students from the invasion. The gunmen then abducted 25 schoolgirls.

Following the coordinated assault, which also saw an unspecified number of residents abducted in nearby Wasagu town, Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, appealed for sustained prayers and unity among residents.

While confirming the incident, Governor Idris immediately dispatched his Deputy, Senator Umar Tafida, to the affected community to assess the situation and reassure residents of the government’s commitment to their safety.

In a move to track the attackers—who are suspected to have crossed into the state from neighbouring Zamfara—the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed that a combined team of police and military operatives has launched a massive rescue operation. The joint security team has also been reinforced with additional personnel deployed from Abuja.

Governor Idris reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to confronting the escalating insecurity, which he noted often stems from incursions by bandits from bordering states and countries.

He stressed that the state continues to provide substantial support to security agencies, including the recent distribution of 100 Hilux patrol vehicles and 5,000 motorcycles to enhance mobility and response time in volatile areas.
