TOPIC: TURN FROM WILFUL SIN

TEXT: Proverbs 29:1-6(NKJV)

29:1. He who is often rebuked, [and] hardens [his] neck, Will suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

29:2. When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked [man] rules, the people groan.

29:3. Whoever loves wisdom makes his father rejoice, But a companion of harlots wastes [his] wealth.

29:4. The king establishes the land by justice, But he who receives bribes overthrows it.

29:5.  A man who flatters his neighbor Spreads a net for his feet.

29:6.  By transgression an evil man is snared, But the righteous sings and rejoices.

STUDY:

This passage begins with a warning not to be stiff-necked or stubbornly attached to sin. To be stiff-necked is to refuse to ignore warnings about sin, and disregard God’s Law by continuing in rebellion against him. Those who do so are at peace with their sins-having being trapped by it. They get flattered by sin (v.5) and think they can be happier if they govern themselves (v.2), comfort themselves, even if through wastages (v.3) and find their own practical solutions to their problems. They feel smart and self-sufficient. But they forget the consequences of such continued rebellion against God, for instance, ignoring God’s warnings was costly for those to whom Noah preached but who didn’t listen.

If you have been warned about sin in your life -listen to that warning! Never ever ignore God’s repeated warnings. God is not happy with those who are stubborn and rebellious to his warnings. He is only being patient with you to lead you to repentance. However, those who continue to resist God after many calls to repentance, those who see their rebellion clearly and yet continue willfully in sin, will finally receive the consequences of sin. Jesus patiently calls you to submit to his authority-to turn from sin and obey his word. His desire is to bless you.

PRAYER:

Lord, please deliver me from all willful sin and help me submit to your authority, Amen!
