Christopher Kolade, ex-Nigerian High Commissioner to the Uk, Dies at 92

Dr. Christopher Kolade, CON, a towering figure in broadcasting, business, diplomacy, and academia has passed on at the age of 92.

A statement by his family confirmed that the aged veteran passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 8.

“We are thankful for his incredible life of faith and service, and are grateful for God’s abundant blessings,” the statement read.

Born in 1932 in Erin-Oke, Osun State, Dr. Kolade began his career in education before moving into broadcasting. He is widely celebrated for his decades-long tenure at the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), where he served as the Director-General. 

Following his success in broadcasting, Dr. Kolade transitioned to the corporate sector, becoming the Chief Executive and Chairman of Cadbury Nigeria Plc. 

Dr. Kolade extended his service to the diplomatic realm when he was appointed the Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, a post he held from 2002 to 2007.

He dedicated himself to education, sharing his wealth of experience as a lecturer at the Lagos Business School (LBS) and the School of Media and Communication (SMC) at Pan-Atlantic University. 

He served as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the University, focusing his teaching on Corporate Governance, Leadership, and Human Resource Management. He also served as the Chancellor of McPherson University.

He was instrumental in founding and leading organizations like the Integrity Organisation Ltd GTE and The Convention on Business Integrity Ltd GTE, working tirelessly to root out corruption in the Nigerian business environment.

He was awarded the national honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) in 2000.
