The Federal Government has established an investigation committee to determine the cause of the recent train derailment on the Abuja-Kaduna rail line.
In a statement posted via X, Sen. Sa’idu Ahmed Alkali, the Minister of Transportation, stated he was prompted to form the panel due to the derailment of the train.
“The Minister has taken a decisive action following a train derailment which occurred yesterday 26th August 2025 at Jerre, while proceeding from Abuja-Kaduna, Nigeria,” he said.
“He directed that a committee of all stakeholders be constituted to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the accident; make recommendations on how to prevent similar incidents in the future; and identify ways to enhance the safety and effectiveness of rail transportation in Nigeria.”
The committee, chaired by Musa O. Ibrahim, is tasked with investigating both the immediate and underlying causes of the accident.
The goal is to provide recommendations that will help improve the overall safety and efficiency of Nigeria’s railway system and prevent similar incidents in the future.
The panel is composed of a diverse group of experts and stakeholders, including professionals from various fields, representatives from relevant companies, and a civil society organization.
The committee will also include a male and female passenger from the derailed train, ensuring a broad perspective in their findings.
