The Office of Nigeria’s immediate past Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has raised concerns over the circulation of deceptive AI-generated videos falsely presenting him as endorsing various products and schemes.
In a statement issued Thursday by his media aide, Mohammed Braimah, the office strongly condemned the unauthorized use of Osinbajo’s image and voice, warning the public about the misleading nature of the content.
“It has come to our notice that AI-generated videos are being circulated online, fraudulently using the image and voice of His Excellency, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, GCON, to promote products and services he has no affiliation with,” the statement read in part.
The office specifically noted that one video falsely portrays Osinbajo endorsing hypertension medication, while another features an AI-generated voice mimicking him to promote a bogus money-making scheme.
“These videos are entirely fictitious and misleading. Prof. Osinbajo has no connection whatsoever with the individuals or entities behind them,” the statement emphasized.
The public was urged to remain vigilant and verify the authenticity of any promotional material, particularly those involving prominent public figures.
“We call on Nigerians to be cautious and to critically assess any claims made in such content before acting on them,” the statement concluded.
