In celebration of the 2025 Mothering Sunday, The Rt. Rev. Titus Alkali, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Wusasa, has conveyed his warmest congratulations to mothers while also expressing strong condemnation of the recent killings in Uromi, Edo State.
Bishop Alkali, in his Mothering Sunday message, praised mothers for their unwavering love and sacrifice. He stated, “Happy Mothering Sunday to all our beautiful, caring, amazing, loving mothers out there. Mothering Sunday, observed on the fourth Sunday in Lent within the Anglican Church, is a global event dedicated to honoring mothers and recognizing their invaluable contributions to their families. A mother’s love is truly limitless, and her selflessness is deeply inspiring.”
He went on to acknowledge the indispensable role of mothers, saying, “A mother dedicates her life to her children and husband, providing unwavering support throughout their journey. We may never fully repay the immense love and sacrifices that mothers generously offer, but we honor and celebrate you on this special day. Happy Mothering Sunday once again, and may God bless you in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.”
Turning his attention to the tragic incident in Uromi, Bishop Alkali condemned the killing of 16 traveling hunters and urged the youth to embrace peace and reject violence. “We stand in solidarity with the families of the 16 innocent hunters who were brutally killed while traveling. Such violence is deeply painful and utterly condemnable. We appeal to the youth to remain calm, avoid jungle justice, and trust the authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice. We pray that God will comfort the grieving families and grant them the strength to bear this loss.”
The Bishop also took a moment to extend his congratulations to Muslim faithful on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan, encouraging them to celebrate with love and peace.
Mothering Sunday services took place across various churches within the Diocese, where men also offered musical renditions to honor their wives and mothers.
