TOPIC: THE CALL TO FAITHFULNESS

TEXT: Hebrews 3:1-6 (NKJV)

  • 3:1 Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus,
  • 3:2 who was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was faithful in all His house.
  • 3:3 For this One has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as He who built the house has more honor than the house.
  • 3:4 For every house is built by someone, but He who built all things is God.
  • 3:5 And Moses indeed was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which would be spoken afterward,
  • 3:6 but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.

STUDY

Faithfulness is what God expects from His children at every point in time. Unfortunately, it is one of the virtues lacking among Christians in our time. Today’s text extols this virtue. Moses walked in faith, trusted in God, and modeled a way for the Jews to follow.

The author of our passage uses different images to explain Jesus’ relationship with believers: He is the Apostle of God, whom we should listen to; our High Priest, through whom we come to the Father; and Ruler of God’s house, whom we should obey.

Jesus, greater than Moses, faithfully executed His ministry even unto death. He assumed human nature to make atonement for us. Jesus is not just a messenger—He is the Message. He has laid a pattern in faithfulness that all are called to follow.

As Christians, we must show faithfulness in our service to God and man, as this is a proof of our Christian stewardship (1 Corinthians 4:2). Our faithfulness to God should not be defined only by attending church services, paying tithes, giving offerings, building structures, or participating in church activities. Rather, it should be defined by obeying God’s Word and walking in His principles, whether they are convenient or not.

Lord Jesus, please grant me grace to live my life faithfully through Christ my Lord. Amen!
