The Anglican Diocese of Lagos West has donated tonnes of hospital consumables and essential medical equipment to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) and the Federal Medical Centre in Ebutte-Metta, furthering its commitment to healthcare support in the region.
The donation, presented yesterday at LASUTH, marked the first stop of the Diocese’s delegation, which included key administrators from the Diocese’s 30 archdeaconries and members celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Diocese. Dr. Olutoyin Okeowo, who represented the Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Revd. Olusola Odedeji, emphasized that the gesture was in line with the Diocese’s mission to support the state’s healthcare delivery and align with its health policy. Dr. Okeowo urged the hospitals to utilize the new resources to provide care to patients free of charge.
Dr. Okeowo also reflected on the long-standing partnership between the Diocese and LASUTH, noting that the establishment of a chapel within the hospital was a symbolic reminder that healthcare should extend beyond the body to the soul. He further announced that the Diocese would soon implement comprehensive medical check-ups for all clergy members and provide medical insurance for them and their families.
In a heartfelt response, Professor Adetokunbo Fabanwo, LASUTH’s Chief Medical Director, expressed gratitude to the Diocese for its support, particularly in remembering the hospital’s patients during its 25th anniversary celebrations. He highlighted ongoing infrastructural developments at the hospital, including a four-storey eye clinic, a single-cell theatre, and a 150-bed multipurpose building. Additionally, the Rotary Club is constructing accommodation facilities for patients’ relatives. “The hospital’s future looks bright indeed,” Professor Fabanwo concluded.
