In a significant move, the Nigeria Police Force has apprehended Bristol Tamunobiefiri, known online as PIDOMNigeria, on charges of compromising government operations.
The arrest, carried out by the National Cybercrime Center officials, took place on August 5 in Tamunobiefiri’s Rivers State hotel room.
PIDOMNigeria, who operates anonymously on X.com and tweets under the handle #PIDOMNIGERIA, had been reported missing since August 5, sparking widespread concern and social media campaigns, including hashtags such as #PIDOM, #FreePidom, and #WhereisPidom.
According to a statement from Force Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi, PIDOMNigeria faces multiple allegations, including unlawful possession of sensitive materials, leaking classified documents, and other cyber-related offences. Adejobi emphasized that a comprehensive investigation would be conducted to address these serious allegations.
He assured the public that the police would rigorously pursue the investigation, aiming to uphold the law and enhance national security.
