As some Nigerians prepare to protest against what they term economic hardship, Dr. James Odedeji, Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos West (Anglican Communion), has emphasized that there is no more crucial time than now to advocate for peace in Nigeria.
In a meeting with reporters in Lagos, Dr. Odedeji discussed the upcoming Apostles of Peace Society International (AOPI) 2024 Annual Peace Award & Investiture, themed ‘Peace in Nigeria.’ The event is set to take place on Thursday at 11 am at the Archbishop Vinning Memorial Cathedral Church, Ikeja, Lagos. Odedeji expressed hope that the lecture would foster peace and address concerns related to the planned protests. He highlighted that AOP has been dedicated to promoting peace since its establishment and noted that the choice of the theme ‘Peace in Nigeria’ is particularly timely. He pointed out that issues like food scarcity and the removal of the petrol subsidy were not anticipated when the theme was chosen, underscoring what he sees as divine timing for this focus on peace.
The event will honor notable Nigerians, including former Osun State Governor Chief Bisi Akande, Blue Star Group CEO Chief (Sir) Obi Okafor, Aero Contractor Ltd CEO Captain Ado Sanusi, third Primate of the Church of Nigeria Archbishop Abiodun Adetiloye, former Chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce Nigeria Dr. Olusegun Oshunkeye, and Chief Gladys Fawehinmi, widow of the late Gani Fawehinmi, among others.
