The management of Ajayi Crowther University has revealed that 36 out of 974 undergraduate students of the institution who will bag a Bachelor of Science degree will be honoured with First Class honours.

Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Timothy Adebayo, on Friday, during a press conference heralding the institution’s 15th convocation ceremony scheduled for November 29 and 30, 2023.

Prof Adebayo disclosed that 594 postgraduate students of the school will equally be honoured with diplomas and Master’s Degrees having satisfied requirements for completing their respective programmes. 30 others, the VC said, will be awarded with Doctor of Philosophy Degrees.

He also noted that the institution will award honorary degrees to renowned banker and administrator, Sir Gbolahan Olukayode Afolayan; Chief Executive Officer of Katchey Company Limited, Mrs Kate Isa and founder of SIFAX Group, Mr Taiwo Afolabi.

Giving a breakdown of the degrees, the VC said: “This beautiful university popularly called ACU was rated this year by the TIMES HIGHER EDUCATION (UK) as the 51st best University in Sub-Saharan Africa and the 15th best University in Nigeria. We are fast moving to scale up our ratings.

“Having provided this enviable background in order to enrich your reports, gentlemen of the press, let me inform the public through you that ACU will award various degrees to 974 undergraduate students and 594 postgraduate students at this year’s Convocation.

“In the undergraduate category, 36 persons will bag First Class Honours; 430 are in the Second Class Honours (Upper) division; while 408 and 100 are in the Second Class Honours (Lower) and Third-Class categories, respectively.

“The 594 graduands in the postgraduate category consist of 71 persons for postgraduate diploma and 523 individuals for Master’s Degree awards in various disciplines. Specifically, 30 successful persons will be awarded Doctor of Philosophy Degrees in various disciplines.”

He also disclosed that during the period under review, four students from the Department of Accounting and Finance were certified as chattered accountants by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

The vice-chancellor also sought the support of well-meaning Nigerians and institutions towards the sustainable funding of its Offa Meta, Awe and Osoogun campuses, provision of halls of residence, more faculty buildings with state-of-the-art equipment, endowments of professorial chairs to the university and funds of building donations towards the establishment of the institution’s College of Medicine.
