20 Practical Ways to Become a Better Church Member

The General Secretary of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, The Venerable Dr. Paul Dajur share twenty practical ways for Christians to be a better Church member in a recent post on his verified social media platform (facebook).

Here are the ways as he shared:

  1. Prioritise Attendance – Be present at church services, Bible studies, and other gatherings regularly.
  2. Engage in Worship – Participate actively in singing, prayers, and listening to sermons with an open heart.
  3. Study the Bible – Read and meditate on God’s Word daily to grow spiritually and apply biblical teachings to your life.
  4. Pray for the Church – Lift up your pastor, leaders, and fellow members in prayer, asking for God’s guidance and blessings.
  5. Support the Leadership – Encourage and respect church leaders, offering constructive feedback rather than criticism.
  6. Serve Faithfully – Volunteer in church ministries according to your gifts, whether in music, teaching, hospitality, or administration.
  7. Be a Good Steward – Give tithes and offerings cheerfully and support church projects generously.
  8. Live Out Your Faith – Demonstrate Christian values in your daily life, being a good representative of Christ.
  9. Foster Unity – Avoid gossip, divisiveness, and conflicts; instead, promote peace and reconciliation.
  10. Encourage Others – Offer words of encouragement, appreciation, and support to fellow members, especially those struggling.
  11. Reach Out to Newcomers – Make visitors and new members feel welcome and included in the church family.
  12. Engage in Fellowship – Build genuine relationships with other members through small groups, home fellowships, and social interactions.
  13. Be Teachable – Receive correction, teaching, and discipleship with humility and a willingness to grow.
  14. Share the Gospel – Actively witness to others about Christ and invite people to church.
  15. Practise Forgiveness – Do not hold grudges; instead, forgive and seek reconciliation when conflicts arise.
  16. Maintain a Servant’s Heart – Look for opportunities to help others in the church, whether practically or spiritually.
  17. Respect Church Traditions and Doctrines – Understand and uphold the core beliefs and practices of your church.
  18. Participate in Church Events – Attend special programmes, retreats, and community outreach efforts.
  19. Be Reliable and Committed – If you take on responsibilities in the church, fulfil them diligently and consistently.
  20. Seek Spiritual Growth – Regularly evaluate your walk with God and take steps to deepen your faith through study, prayer, and mentorship.
