Joh 8:1-11
Aims
to explain in clear terms, the word gentleness,
to expatiate on the attributes of a gentle person
to examine how gentleness can impact the spread of the gospel.
Introduction
Gentleness is an ability to show love and care for others in speech and action. A gentle person is calm and rational in a state of anger. They are never rash in their action and speech; instead, they are always aware of the needs of others and are open to new experiences and ideas. In our text today, we can see all these attributes in Jesus Christ, as he gently (without rashness) bent down before passing judgement on the case of the woman caught in adultery.
Study Guide
From the Introduction, define gentleness and mention three of the attributes of a gentle person.
What can you learn from Jesus’ example in today’s text? Compare with Mark 9:38-39
Carefully examine Acts 6:1-7 and analyse how gentleness can be an attribute of soul winning. Read also Gal 6:1
How best can we live a gentle life as Christians? Rom 14:1; Rom 15:1; 2Tim 2:24-25.
Conclusion
In order to be gentle, we must not view ourselves as better than others. Rather than assert superiority, we must be ready to help others, even when they have been found in sinful habit.
