GOD’S CHILDREN AS PILGRIMS TO THE HEAVENLY KINGDOM:
MANIFESTATION OF GOD’S REIGN ON EARTH
EIGHTH SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY
Date: Jul 30, 2023
Sub Theme: Manifesting Spiritual fruits 4
 Topic: Long suffering
Text:
IICor 6:1-10
 Aims
to understand long suffering in biblical context and
the significance of long suffering in our Christian race.
 Introduction
Long-suffering is from the Greek word “makrothumia,” which means “long-tempered” or “patient”. Contrary to popular view, a person who is long-suffering is not weak; instead, he or she is strong in character and bold in resisting rash reactions. It is simply having or showing patience in spite of trouble, affliction and oppression.
 Study Guide
Carefully analyse our text today with particular emphasis on IICor 6:3-5 and explain long suffering.
Expatiate on Est 4:13-17 and from the passage, how can you describe Esther as a paragon of longsuffering? Compare with Est 5:4, Est 5:8, and Est 7:1-6.
What can we learn from the prototype of Jesus’ longsuffering in Phil 2:5-10; 1Tim 1:16
What is the significance of longsuffering in our Christian race? Jam 1:12; Rev 2:10
 Conclusion
Our Lord Jesus Christ endured as human on earth even though he is one with God and also endured the long suffering on the cross to win the crown of victory. Therefore, our ability to radiate the spiritual fruit of long suffering is an attestation of our Christlikeness.
 Food for Thought
Long suffering is never weakness, but spiritual fruit for the crown of life.
 Memory Verse
Jam 1:12 “Blessed is the man who endures temptation, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to those who love him”.
