GOD’S CHILDREN AS PILGRIMS TO THE HEAVENLY KINGDOM:
MANIFESTATION OF GOD’S REIGN ON EARTH
FIFTH SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY
Date: Jul 9, 2023
Sub Theme: Manifesting Spiritual fruits 1
Topic: Love
Text:
Matt. 5: 43-48
Aims
to discuss the extent of Christian love
to expose the implication of loving all people in our earthly pilgrimage.
Introduction
Love simply means a deep feeling, affection, interest and pleasure in another person or something. In the context of today’s study, Jesus emphasised the unlimitedness, immeasurability and inexhaustibility of love by Christians. Christian love has no geographical, ethnic, cultural or religious boundary. It can’t be limited or measured by these factors. Whoever will inherit the kingdom of God must understand this teaching; otherwise he or she will be exhausted by worldly factors and thereby loses the tendency to win souls into the Kingdom of God.
Study Guide
From Jesus’ teaching in our text, how can you define love? Read again Matt 5:44, Matt 5:46
How can we easily put boundary or limit to love in our Christian race? Read Luke 10:30-32; John 4:6-8.
According to Luke 19:5-9, what is the implication of loving all people?
How best can we love our enemies especially our persecutors? Matt 5:44; Rom 12:19-20
Conclusion
Love by a Christian should never be limited to friends, relatives, tongues and tribes; but to all that comes across us including those that persecute us. By so doing, we replicate our Lord Jesus Christ who prayed for His persecutors on the cross.
Food for Thought
A limited love is a godless love. Christian love is unlimited.
Memory Verse
Matt. 5: 44 “But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,”
