Umar Bago, the governor of Niger state, has ordered the arrest of persons with dreadlocks in Minna, the state capital.
Speaking during a stakeholders security meeting held on Tuesday, the governor ordered security operatives to cut the dreadlocks of such persons and impose fines on them.
He emphasized on his governments lack of tolerance for rascality.
“Anybody that you find with dreadlocks, arrest him, barb his hair and fine him. Nobody should carry any kind of that haircut again inside Minna,” the governor said.
“I have given margin order to the security agencies.”
Bago also directed that any person found with weapons should be treated like an armed robber.
He encouraged parents to look out for their children and wards. “Parents, please caution your children. From now on, it’s 100 percent fire for fire.”
The governor stated that “Any attempt to harass a security officer is an attempt against Niger state. We are going to come with full force of power and government and descend on you.”
He further directed that any house harboring criminals should be demolished. He directed NDLEA and other responsible agencies to clamp down on drug dealers and emphasized on a zero percent level of tolerance of drug use in Niger State.
