Text:Luke 4:5-8

4:5  Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 

4:6 And the devil said to Him, “All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish.

4:7 Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours.”

4:8 And Jesus answered and said to him, ^[b]“Get behind Me, Satan! ^[c]For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”

STUDY:

After suffering defeat in his first attempt to trap Jesus, the devil then took Him up to a high mountain, and showed Him the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. HHe then presented a proposal to give Jesus all the authority and glory of the kingdoms since they belonged to him. However, he also presented a condition that Jesus shouId fulfil in order to get the kingdoms. The condition required Jesus to bow down and worship him. Jesus resorted to the Word of God and told the devil to get behind Him since it is written that “You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve”(Deut.6:13;10:20)

Christians need to be mindful that the devil does not give up easily when defeated. Rather, he would employ another tactic to tempt the believer to sin. Jesus has shown us that using the word of God against the plans of the devil, will always work. How often do you study the word of God? You can resolve to begin today to study the Bible everyday so as to be prepared for temptations when they come(Josh.1:8).

O Lord my Father, help me to be a student of the Word inJesus’Name. Amen.
