The National Assembly has temporarily halted all legislative sessions and activities until Tuesday, July 22, 2025, as a tribute to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

This suspension was announced on Monday by Kamoru Ogunlana, the Clerk to the National Assembly. The directive came from the leadership of both the Senate and the House of Representatives, serving as a gesture of respect for the departed Nigerian leader.

Lawmakers have been advised to make necessary adjustments to their personal schedules to ensure their participation in the upcoming burial ceremonies and national mourning period.

The National Assembly leadership conveyed its deepest sympathies to the Buhari family, Katsina State, and the entire nation. They noted that the former president’s legacy would be marked by his dedication to fostering unity, upholding integrity, and advancing national development.

The former president passed on Sunday 13, July, in a hospital in London after dealing with an illness.

President Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s military Head of State from 1984 to 1985 and later as a democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023, was a prominent figure whose leadership left an indelible mark on both national and continental affairs.
