Topic: A BROKEN AND CONTRITE HEART

Text: Psalm 51:14-19

51:14 Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God, The God of my salvation, And my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness.

51:15 O Lord, open my lips, And my mouth shall show forth Your praise.

51:16 For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it; You do not delight in burnt offering.

51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart— These, O God, You will not despise.

51:18 Do good in Your good pleasure to Zion; Build the walls of Jerusalem.

51:19 Then You shall be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, With burnt offering and whole burnt offering; Then they shall offer bulls on Your altar.

STUDY:

The 6th of the Ten Commandments warns against murder. No wonder in today’s text, David prays for deliverance from the guilt of bloodshed so that he could sing of God’s righteousness. He asked God to open his lips, to enable him praise Him. He observed that God does not desire animal sacrifice or burnt offering, but rather the sacrifices of a broken and a contrite heart which He never despises. The Psalmist prays that God would do good to Zion and build the walls of Jerusalem so that the people would offer sacrifices of righteousness which will be pleasant to God.

Today, murder rates are increasing in many countries. Some commit murder to eliminate their enemies, steal money, obtain property or wealth, harvest human organs, or collect blood for occult activities. However, Christians must not engage in sins of blood guiltiness. Some cultures offer animal sacrifices to appease their gods, while some Christians present live animals in churches to show their love for God. Inasmuch as doing this is not wrong, God is more pleased with Christians who offer sacrifices of a broken and a contrite heart. Do you have a broken and a contrite heart? Ask God to grant you such a heart and you will be blessed.

Prayer:

Father; grant me a broken and contrite heart today in Jesus’Name. Amen.

Topic: PERSISTENT FAITH

Text: Mark 2:1-12

2:1 And again He entered Capernaum after some days, and it was heard that He was in the house.

2:2 Immediately many gathered together, so that there was no longer room to receive them, not even near the door. And He preached the word to them.

2:3 Then they came to Him, bringing a paralytic who was carried by four men.

2:4And when they could not come near Him because of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where He was. So when they had broken through, they let down the bed on which the paralytic was lying.

2:5 When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.”

2:6 And some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts,

2:7 ”Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”

2:8 But immediately, when Jesus perceived in His spirit that they reasoned thus within themselves, He said to them, “Why do you reason about these things in your hearts?

2:9 Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise, take up your bed and walk’?

2:10 But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins” He said to the paralytic,

2:11 “I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.”

2:12 Immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went out in the presence of them all, so that all were amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!”

STUDY:

Our text records the healing of a paralysed man by Jesus Christ, after he was brought by four of his friends. These four demonstrated persistence in their faith. First, the house where Jesus Christ was at the time was crowded that they could not bring the man in through the door. However, they did not give up. Verse 4 shows that the friends had to break the roof to create an opening through which they lowered the man right before Jesus Christ. This led to the miraculous healing that followed. Jesus Christ commended their faith and healed the man, not minding the criticism of the teachers of the law around there.

We need a persistent faith to receive miracles from the Lord, whether it be for healing or handling of other difficult problems. Such faith will drive us to pray fervently concerning a given case, fast, wait and believe God to bring the solution (Matt. 7:7-8). Even when the solution appears to linger, we should keep praying, and acting in faith, knowing that God can do all things (Hab. 2:3). Do you have persistent faith? Remember that faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Rom. 10:17). Make out time to hear, read, and study the word of God.

Prayer:

Lord, please increase my faith in Jesus’Name. Amen.

Text:Psalm 128:1-6

128:1 A Song of Ascents. Blessed is every one who fears the Lord,Who walks in His ways.

128:2 When you eat the labor of your hands, You shall be happy, and it shall be well with you.

128:3 Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine In the very heart of your house, Your children like olive plants. All around your table.

128:4 Behold, thus shall the man be blessed Who fears the Lord.

128:5 The Lord bless you out of Zion, And may you see the good of Jerusalem. All the days of your life.

128:6 Yes, may you see your children’s children. Peace be upon Israel!

<iframe title="DAILY FOUNTAIN DEVOTIONAL FOR JANUARY 28, 2026 - THE VEN.

STUDY:

There are threefold blessings revealed in our text for the man who fears the LORD. These blessings are at the personal, family and national levels. The personal blessings include having food to eat, being happy and living in a state of wellbeing. The family blessings include having a wife that shall be fruitful in bearing children and having children that shall be healthy and useful like growing olive plants. Again, the man will live long enough to see his grandchildren. The national blessings include seeing the prosperity of the nation.

With all of these blessings, it becomes crucial to find out what it requires to fear the LORD. It requires respect and honouring Him, repentance from sinful behaviours, walking in His ways, following Him wherever He leads, having a personal relationship with Him, and being obedient to His will and purposes. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Psa.111:10a). The fear of the Lord is to hate evil, pride and arrogance (Prov.8:13). Do you really fear the Lord with your whole heart? Decide today to fear God and be blessed by Him. Will you humble yourself to acknowledge Him as your Father?

Prayer:

Father put your fear in my heart and teach me your ways in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Topic: THE BASIC REQUIREMENT FOR KINGDOM WORK

Text: John 3:1-8

3:1 There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.

3:2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.”

3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

3:4 Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”

3:5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

3:7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’

3:8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

STUDY:

Nicodemus, afraid of what the people would say, came to Jesus by night. He started a conversation by praising Jesus, probably thinking that he would receive a commendation from Jesus. However, Jesus who knows the need of every man and sees into the heart, quickly interrupted him”… except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” In other words, though you are a Jewish leader, possibly serving the people with all your life, you must be born again in order to see God’s kingdom. When Nicodemus wondered the possibility of such a new birth, Jesus told him that it was a matter of being born of the Spirit of God.

Many people today are busy for God doing one thing or the other in Churches, fellowships and in other religious groups, without having experienced the new birth. Perhaps Nicodemus’ visit was a quest for knowledge, to probe into the secrets of how to work miracles. The Lord offered him life, the new birth experience. Whatever God will do in and with you begins here. You must be born again. Seek not high things, start with the basics! Are you born again? Jesus will first of all offer life to you before recruiting you into effective service.

Prayer:

Father, please grant unto me genuine encounter with the Saviour. Jesus Christ.

Topic:REVIVE US AGAIN

Text: John 2:12-25

2:12 After this He went down to Capernaum, He, His mother, His brothers, and His disciples; and they did not stay there many days.

2:13 Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

2:14 And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers doing business.

2:15 When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers’ money and overturned the tables.

2:16 And He said to those who sold doves, “Take these things away! Do not make My Father’s house a house of merchandise!”

2:17 Then His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for Your house has eaten Me up.”

2:18 So the Jews answered and said to Him, “What sign do You show to us, since You do these things?”

2:19 Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”

2:20 Then the Jews said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?”

2:21 But He was speaking of the temple of His body.

2:22 Therefore, when He had risen from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this to them; and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had said.

2:23 Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name when they saw the signs which He did.

2:24 But Jesus did not commit Himself to them, because He knew all men,

2:25 and had no need that anyone should testify of man, for He knew what was in man.

STUDY:

Jesus went up to Jerusalem to attend the Passover of the Jews. He observed that people were selling animals for sacrifices and exchanging money for visitors. These people had turned the Feast of Passover into a means of doing business, making money, and feeling relevant. They were exploiting people coming to the Passover from far distances, by making them part with their hard-earned resources. This did not go down well with Jesus Christ who made a whip of cords and drove them out of the temple because they were not honouring God with theiractions.

What started out as “the Lord’s Passover” (Exod.12:11,27), had now become the Jews’ Passover”(v.13). If the Lord of the Passover made a whip of small cords in those days, He would certainly make same for this generation. Today, we have made merchandise of the grace of God, and cannot be trusted with His precious pearls. Are you part of those who steal church money entrusted to your care? Jesus will come one day for you. Do away with religion that is void of the fear of God! Arise with fervency in
pursuit of God until streams of His refreshing flow over you, overwhelmingly. Ask God for self-revival today!

Prayer:

Father; let thy kingdom come and may the fear for your Name overwhelm us.

TOPIC: JUST BEFORE YOUR LAST BREATH

TEXT: Luke 2:25-35(NKJV)

2:25. And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.

2:26. And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.

2:27. So he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law,

2:28. he took Him up in his arms and blessed God and said:

2:29. “Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace, According to Your word;

2:30. For my eyes have seen Your salvation

2:31. Which You have prepared before the face of all peoples,

2:32. A light to [bring] revelation to the Gentiles, And the glory of Your people Israel.”

2:33. And Joseph and His mother marveled at those things which were spoken of Him.

2:34. Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, “Behold, this [Child] is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which will be spoken against

2:35. “(yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”

STUDY:

We read in Hebrews 9:27 thus, “And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.” Until Christ’s Second Coming, each one of us will continue to keep an appointment with death, that is, breathe our last breath. This was the experience of Simeon, a devout Jew who was looking for the ‘consolation’ or salvation (Luke 2:30) of Israel. And in verse 26 we read that the Holy Spirit revealed to Simeon that he would not see death until he had seen the Lord’s Christ. True to this revelation, Simeon saw the infant Jesus as He was brought to the temple by Joseph and Mary to dedicate him. Simeon recognized him to be the Messiah and prophesied concerning the Child (the Nunc Dimittis) and Mary his mother. Simeon could now die (breathe his last breath) in peace after seeing Jesus, who is the salvation of Israel (v.29). Beloved, like Simeon, we must resolve to have a personal encounter with Jesus before we take our last breath and depart this world. Not to do so is to miss the inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade-an inheritance kept in heaven for Christians (1 Pet. 1:4). Be reminded that there is no repentance in the grave. Now is the day of salvation; tomorrow may be too late.

PRAYER:

Father; help me work out my salvation with fear and trembling before I breathe my last.

TOPIC: THE ANTIDOTE (REMEDY) TO SIN

TEXT: 1John 3:4-12(NKJV)

3:4. Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.

3:5. And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin.

3:6. Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.

3:7. Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous.

3:8. He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.

3:9. Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.

3:10. In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor [is] he who does not love his brother.

3:11. For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another,

3:12. not as Cain [who] was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his works were evil and his brother’s righteous.

STUDY:

In recent times, the doctrine of “Once Saved, Always Saved,” often referred to as ‘OSAS’ gospel, continues to downplay the grievousness of sin; with the wrong belief that one cannot lose his/her salvation. However, we must remember that God cannot behold iniquity and that no sinner can inherit the kingdom of God. Therefore the issue of sin has to be dealt with. From John’s account in this passage, sin can NOT accompany the spiritual birth. Sin cannot co-exist with a believer who is born of the spirit. John stresses two important issues, which I can term the “drug and vaccination” against sin. The vaccination is the issue of the spiritual birth which deposits a part of God – the seed of God – in us. The drug is the fact that we remain in Christ. This is the ANTIDOTE to sin. It makes it impossible for us to sin. We cannot claim righteousness outside of Christ.

PRAYER:

Dear Lord, please help me to remain in You so that I do not sin against You.

TEXT: 1 John 3:1-3(NKJV)

3:1. Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.

3:2. Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.

3:3. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

STUDY:

Many persons have often wondered the justification for suicide. A particular service provider has “Life is Beautiful’ as its advertisement slogan. The question always is: Why will someone want to kill him/herself in the midst of this beauty? My response has always been that when hope is lost, anything negative is possible. No matter how difficult life may be, a man of hope will get going. Our passage today speaks of the manner of love that God has for his children, and the expectation of being like Christ when we shall behold him at the end of time. The idea of becoming like Christ fascinated John so much that he was ready to pay any price to actualize it. This was the ground of his hope; it was not temporal but completely eternal. In the hope of being like Christ, he was willing to pursue the purity required. The evidence of our sincere desire to becoming like Christ is seen in our commitment to be pure. Until we begin to pursue purity, our profession of the Second Coming, the Millennial Reign and the Reunion with Christ is nothing but pretense.

PRAYER:

Lord, purify me until I become like You, Amen!

TOPIC: BROKEN VOWS

TEXT: Malachi2:10-17(NKJV)

2:10. Have we not all one Father? Has not one God created us? Why do we deal treacherously with one another By profaning the covenant of the fathers?

2:11. Judah has dealt treacherously, And an abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem, For Judah has profaned The LORD’s holy [institution] which He loves: He has married the daughter of a foreign god.

2:12. May the LORD cut off from the tents of Jacob The man who does this, being awake and aware, Yet who brings an offering to the LORD of hosts!

2:13. And this is the second thing you do: You cover the altar of the LORD with tears, With weeping and crying; So He does not regard the offering anymore, Nor receive [it] with goodwill from your hands.

2:14. Yet you say, “For what reason?” Because the LORD has been witness Between you and the wife of your youth, With whom you have dealt treacherously; Yet she is your companion And your wife by covenant.

2:15. But did He not make [them] one, Having a remnant of the Spirit? And why one? He seeks godly offspring. Therefore take heed to your spirit, And let none deal treacherously with the wife of his youth.

2:16. “For the LORD God of Israel says That He hates divorce, For it covers one’s garment with violence,” Says the LORD of hosts. “Therefore take heed to your spirit, That you do not deal treacherously.”

2:17. You have wearied the LORD with your words; Yet you say, “In what way have we wearied [Him?”] In that you say, “Everyone who does evil [Is] good in the sight of the LORD, And He delights in them,” Or, “Where [is] the God of justice?”

STUDY:

The passage opens by reminding the Israelites of their shared origin and covenant with God. Despite this shared history and commitment, the people had been “betraying one another” and exhibiting disloyalty, both to their fellow humans and to God Himself. God described divorce as something He “hates.” This statement speaks to the broader importance of honoring commitments and maintaining the sanctity of relationships. Whether it applies to marriage, friendships, or our covenant with God, breaking faith has significant consequences.

The passage urges individuals to “guard yourselves in your spirits” and to avoid “breaking faith.” This requires vigilance and self-awareness. We must be mindful of the promises we make and the impact our actions have on others. In what ways do you ensure you are living up to your commitments, both to others and to God? Have there been times when you have broken faith with someone? How can you work towards healing those relationships? How can you cultivate a more positive and trusting relationship with God, even when faced with challenges or doubts?

PRAYER:

Almighty God, forgive me for my broken promises and unfaithfulness. Help me to strengthen the relationships in my lives and cultivate a spirit of integrity.

TOPIC: A GREAT REDEEMER

Text: Galatians 3:13-14 (NKJV)

3:13 “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree’)”

3:14 “that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith”

STUDY:

Apostle Paul in our text reminds us that though the Law is holy and perfect, everyone who does not keep the Law perfectly is cursed by it (Deut.27:26; Gal.3:10). This is because no one can, on his or her ability, obey the Law perfectly. There were over 600 laws the Jews had to keep so as to to be right in the eyes of God; breaking one commandment put a person under condemnation. Therefore, achieving salvation through obedience to the Law is fruitless. As a result, all who tried to live by the Old Law were under a divine curse.

The good news is that Christ, through his death on the cross, provided a way out of this curse, making the way for us to regain favour of God. He did this by becoming a curse for us- for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree’”. The Curse of the Law fell on Christ on our behalf so that the righteousness of God could fall onus, though we did not deserve it (2 Cor. 5:21). He took away our sins and curses so that the blessings of Abraham might come to the Gentiles through him. Every man is condemned and cursed but the redemptive grace of Jesus brought us all into favour and blessings of God, and we can access this grace by believing in the Lord Jesus and living by faith to receive the blessings that accompany faithful observance of the law.

PRAYER:

Lord Jesus, I thank you for offering yourself to save me, I now ask for the grace to live for you for the rest of my life, Amen!
