<p><strong>Topic:</strong> <strong>YOU HAVEN&#8217;T SEEN ANYTHING!</strong></p>

<p><strong>Text:1 Kings 10:1-13</strong></p>

<p><strong>10:1</strong> Now when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the Lord, she came to test him with hard questions.</p>

<p id="block-0000bd0c-b481-46e4-bcf0-b7b6debc21aa"><strong>10:2</strong>  She came to Jerusalem with a very great [<a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Kings%2010:1-13&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-9082a" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a</a>]retinue, with camels that bore spices, very much gold, and precious stones; and when she came to Solomon, she spoke with him about all that was in her heart.</p>

<p id="block-33d2fabf-a866-4400-8205-977ae08181c0"><strong>10:3</strong>    So Solomon answered all her questions; there was nothing [<a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Kings%2010:1-13&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-9083b" target="_blank" rel="noopener">b</a>]so difficult for the king that he could not explain <em>it</em> to her.  </p>

<p><strong>10:4</strong>    And when the queen of Sheba had seen all the wisdom of Solomon, the house that he had built, </p>

<p><strong>10:5</strong>  he food on his table, the seating of his servants, the service of his waiters and their apparel, his cupbearers, and his entryway by which he went up to the house of the Lord, there was no more spirit in her.</p>

<p><strong>10:6</strong> Then she said to the king: “It was a true report which I heard in my own land about your words and your wisdom. </p>

<p><strong>10:7</strong>However I did not believe the words until I came and saw with my own eyes; and indeed the half was not told me. Your wisdom and prosperity exceed the fame of which I heard. </p>

<p><strong>10:8</strong>  Happy <em>are</em> your men and happy <em>are</em> these your servants, who stand continually before you <em>and</em> hear your wisdom! </p>

<p><strong>10:9</strong> Blessed be the Lord your God, who delighted in you, setting you on the throne of Israel! Because the Lord has loved Israel forever, therefore He made you king, to do justice and righteousness.”</p>

<p><strong>10:1</strong>0<strong> </strong> Then she gave the king one hundred and twenty talents of gold, spices in great quantity, and precious stones. There never again came such abundance of spices as the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon. </p>

<p><strong>10:11</strong> Also, the ships of Hiram, which brought gold from Ophir, brought great quantities of [<a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Kings%2010:1-13&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-9091c" target="_blank" rel="noopener">c</a>]almug wood and precious stones from Ophir. </p>

<p><strong>10:12 </strong>And the king made [<a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Kings%2010:1-13&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-9092d" target="_blank" rel="noopener">d</a>]steps of the almug wood for the house of the Lord and for the king’s house, also harps and stringed instruments for singers. There never again came such almug wood, nor has the like been seen to this day.</p>

<p><strong>10:13</strong> Now King Solomon gave the queen of Sheba all she desired, whatever she asked, besides what Solomon had given her according to the royal generosity. So she turned and went to her own country, she and her servants.</p>

<p id="block-74e06b4f-7111-4784-958d-f6198426ccf9"><strong>STUDY:</strong></p>

<p id="block-74e06b4f-7111-4784-958d-f6198426ccf9">What made Solomon great and famous was the wisdom and riches God gave him. The Queen of Sheba while in her own country, heard of the wisdom, fame, splendour and greatness of Solomon, but did not really believe the story. When she came to verify the truth of what she heard, and saw the splendour of Solomon as well as his servants and officials, she was left breathless. Solomon far surpassed his fellow kings. In fact, the Queen of Sheba confessed that even half of Solomon&#8217;s splendour was not told her.</p>

<p id="block-74e06b4f-7111-4784-958d-f6198426ccf9"><br>Solomon acquired wisdom, glory and honour because of his association with God. If you can humble yourself before God, seek His kingdom and live righteously, God can give you life, money, wisdom and honour, much more than you think or imagine. If you love righteousness and hate sin, God will exalt you beyond measure. Again, if you humble yourself under the mighty hands of God, He will exalt you at the proper time. Do your best to lead a life of humility. Trust in God with all your heart; don&#8217;t depend on your own understanding, and God will direct your path.</p>

<p><strong>Text: 1 Kings 9:10-28</strong></p>

<p><strong>9:10</strong>  Now it happened at the end of twenty years, when Solomon had built the two houses, the house of the Lord and the king’s house </p>

<p id="block-0000bd0c-b481-46e4-bcf0-b7b6debc21aa"><strong>9:11</strong>  (Hiram the king of Tyre had supplied Solomon with cedar and cypress and gold, as much as he desired), <em>that</em> King Solomon then gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.</p>

<p id="block-33d2fabf-a866-4400-8205-977ae08181c0"><strong>9:12</strong>   Then Hiram went from Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him, but they did not please him. </p>

<p><strong>9:13</strong>    So he said, “What <em>kind of</em> cities <em>are</em> these which you have given me, my brother?” And he called them the land of [<a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Kings%209%3A10-28&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-9065a" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a</a>]Cabul, as they are to this day. </p>

<p><strong>9:14</strong>  Then Hiram sent the king one hundred and twenty talents of gold</p>

<p><strong>9:15</strong> And this <em>is</em> the reason for the labor force which King Solomon raised: to build the house of the Lord, his own house, [<a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Kings%209%3A10-28&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-9067b" target="_blank" rel="noopener">b</a>]the Millo, the wall of Jerusalem, Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer.</p>

<p><strong>9:16</strong> (Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up and taken Gezer and burned it with fire, had killed the Canaanites who dwelt in the city, and had given it <em>as</em> a dowry to his daughter, Solomon’s wife.) </p>

<p><strong>9:17</strong>  And Solomon built Gezer, Lower Beth Horon,</p>

<p><strong>9:18</strong> Baalath, and Tadmor in the wilderness, in the land <em>of Judah,</em></p>

<p><strong>9:19 </strong> all the storage cities that Solomon had, cities for his chariots and cities for his cavalry, and whatever Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem, in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion.</p>

<p><strong>9:20</strong> All the people <em>who were</em> left of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, who <em>were</em> not of the children of Israel— </p>

<p><strong>9;21 </strong>that is, their descendants who were left in the land after them, whom the children of Israel had not been able to destroy completely—from these Solomon raised forced labor, as it is to this day.</p>

<p><strong>9:22</strong> But of the children of Israel Solomon made no forced laborers, because they <em>were</em> men of war and his servants: his officers, his captains, commanders of his chariots, and his cavalry.</p>

<p><strong>9:23 </strong>Others <em>were</em> chiefs of the officials who <em>were</em> over Solomon’s work: five hundred and fifty, who ruled over the people who did the work.</p>

<p><strong>9:24</strong> “ But Pharaoh’s daughter came up from the City of David to her house which [<a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Kings%209%3A10-28&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-9076c" target="_blank" rel="noopener">c</a>]<em>Solomon</em> had built for her. Then he built the Millo.</p>

<p><strong>9:25 </strong> Now three times a year Solomon offered burnt offerings and peace offerings on the altar which he had built for the Lord, and he burned incense with them <em>on the altar</em> that <em>was</em> before the Lord. So he finished the temple.</p>

<p><strong>9:26</strong>King Solomon also built a fleet of ships at Ezion Geber, which <em>is</em> near [<a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Kings%209%3A10-28&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-9078d" target="_blank" rel="noopener">d</a>]Elath on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom.</p>

<p><strong>9:27 </strong> Then Hiram sent his servants with the fleet, seamen who knew the sea, to work with the servants of Solomon.</p>

<p><strong>9:28</strong> And they went to Ophir, and acquired four hundred and twenty talents of gold from there, and brought <em>it</em> to King Solomon.</p>

<p id="block-74e06b4f-7111-4784-958d-f6198426ccf9"><strong>STUDY:</strong></p>

<p id="block-74e06b4f-7111-4784-958d-f6198426ccf9">When Solomon finished building the Lord&#8217;s temple and his royal palace, he gave 20 cities in the land of Galilee to Hiram, the King of Tyre, for the cedar and cypress timber and gold that Solomon had requested for the buildings. When the king of Tyre went to see the cities Solomon gave him, he was not pleased at all with them. It was better if he had negotiated, agreed on the number and nature of cities to be given to him for a specific quantity of timber and gold, and also inspected the cities to be given in exchange, before supplying timber to Solomon since they were doing the exchange of goods and materials as business. In business, it&#8217;s proper to be specific on the terms and conditions governing the business, and read and inspect the materials involved to avoid displeasure and misunderstanding after the business has begun. Seek the services of lawyers, accountants, quantity surveyors, valuers and other professionals in a large scale business that may require their services to avoid &#8220;had I known&#8221; at the end.</p>

<p id="block-74e06b4f-7111-4784-958d-f6198426ccf9"><br>At verse 13, when Hiram was not pleased with the cities Solomon gave to him, he spoke to Solomon with soft words asking, &#8220;What kind of cities are these which you have given me, my brother?&#8221; Hiram still went on and paid Solomon 120 talents of gold. Even when your business partner or any other person offends you, don&#8217;t rain curses on them. Rather, be firm and polite in your complaint and expression of displeasure, so as to maintain peaceful relationship when the problem may have been solved. Remember that a soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh answer steers up anger.</p>

<p id="block-74e06b4f-7111-4784-958d-f6198426ccf9"></p>

<p>Father, help me not to do sinful actions, and not to speak angry words since I belong to Jesus.</p>

<p id="block-33d2fabf-a866-4400-8205-977ae08181c0"><strong>19:12</strong>   Therefore He said: “A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and to return. </p>

<p><strong>19:13</strong>     So he called ten of his servants, delivered to them ten [<a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke%2019:11-27&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-25745a" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a</a>]minas, and said to them, ‘Do business till I come.’</p>

<p><strong>19:14</strong> But his citizens hated him, and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We will not have this <em>man</em> to reign over us.</p>

<p><strong>19:15</strong>  “And so it was that when he returned, having received the kingdom, he then commanded these servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading. </p>

<p><strong>19:20</strong> “Then another came, saying, ‘Master, here is your mina, which I have kept put away in a handkerchief. </p>

<p><strong>19;21 </strong>For I feared you, because you are [<a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke%2019:11-27&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-25753b" target="_blank" rel="noopener">b</a>]an austere man. You collect what you did not deposit, and reap what you did not sow.’ </p>

<p><strong>19:22</strong>  And he said to him, ‘Out of your own mouth I will judge you, <em>you</em> wicked servant. You knew that I was an austere man, collecting what I did not deposit and reaping what I did not sow. </p>

<p><strong>19:23 </strong>Why then did you not put my money in the bank, that at my coming I might have collected it with interest?’</p>

<p id="block-74e06b4f-7111-4784-958d-f6198426ccf9"><strong>STUDY:</strong></p>

<p id="block-74e06b4f-7111-4784-958d-f6198426ccf9">Today&#8217;s text is a parable Jesus told his disciples who wrongly assumed that He would establish His kingdom on Earth. Luke did not tell us who the noble man is, but John 14:1-3 tells us that the noble man is Jesus. He went to heaven to prepare for us a place, after which He will come and take us home. The minas the noble man gave to his servants are the talents, money, health, wealth, time, opportunity, wisdom, privileges and other gifts which God gave to us. The servants refer to us who are God&#8217;s children. The purpose for which God gave us various gifts is for us to use them to serve Him until He comes back to take us home. Unfortunately, some Christians misuse their gifts. Some refuse completely to serve God with what God gave to them, while some apply what God gave to them to the service of Satan.</p>

<p id="block-74e06b4f-7111-4784-958d-f6198426ccf9"><br>Verse 15 tells us that when the noble man returned, he demanded for account from his servants to whom he gave the minas. In the same way, Christ will come back and we shall give to Him accounts for all the money, talents, time and opportunities He gave to us. We must therefore be careful of how we spend God&#8217;s resources because we must give account of our lives to God. Christ will give to every man according to his work. Evil persons will be rewarded according to the evil work they did, while the righteous will be rewarded with eternal life in God&#8217;s kingdom. What do you apply your gifts to? Think again!</p>

<p><strong>Text: 1 Kings 9:1-9</strong></p>

<p id="block-0000bd0c-b481-46e4-bcf0-b7b6debc21aa"><strong>9:1</strong>   And it came to pass, when Solomon had finished building the house of the Lord and the king’s house, and all Solomon’s desire which he wanted to do,</p>

<p id="block-33d2fabf-a866-4400-8205-977ae08181c0"><strong>9:2</strong>   that the Lord appeared to Solomon the second time, as He had appeared to him at Gibeon. </p>

<p><strong>9:3</strong>    And the Lord said to him: “I have heard your prayer and your supplication that you have made before Me; I have consecrated this house which you have built to put My name there forever, and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually. </p>

<p><strong>9:4</strong> Now if you walk before Me as your father David walked, in integrity of heart and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded you, <em>and</em> if you keep My statutes and My judgments,</p>

<p><strong>9:5</strong> then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, as I promised David your father, saying, ‘You shall not fail to have a man on the throne of Israel.’</p>

<p><strong>9:6</strong> Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.<em>But</em> if you or your sons at all [<a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Kings%209&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-9058a" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a</a>]turn from following Me, and do not keep My commandments <em>and</em> My statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods and worship them,</p>

<p>9:7  then I will [<a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Kings%209&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-9059b" target="_blank" rel="noopener">b</a>]cut off Israel from the land which I have given them; and this house which I have consecrated for My name I will cast out of My sight. <p>9:9Then they will answer, ‘Because they forsook the Lord their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, and worshiped them and served them; therefore the Lord has brought all this calamity on them.’ ”</p>

<p id="block-74e06b4f-7111-4784-958d-f6198426ccf9"><strong>STUDY:</strong></p>

<p id="block-74e06b4f-7111-4784-958d-f6198426ccf9">After the dedication of the temple, God appeared to Solomon and promised him that as long as he and Israel kept God&#8217;s commandment, He would be present in that temple forever and would watch over it. He also warned that if Solomon and Israel abandoned the temple, He would reject Israel and get the beautiful temple destroyed.<br>This promise and warning still apply to us today. Our bodies are God&#8217;s temples (1 Cor. 6:19), and the Holy Spirit lives in us as a sign of God&#8217;s presence in His temple. If we maintain holiness, righteousness, purity and chastity, God will be present in us, and will care for and protect us permanently.</p>

<p id="block-74e06b4f-7111-4784-958d-f6198426ccf9"> But if we commit fornication, homosexuality, adultery, or live a life of impurity and lust, it will amount to abandoning God and defiling His temple. God will not spare us; He will destroy any person who destroys His temple (1 Cor. 3:17). Once a Christian lives in sexual sin, the Holy Spirit departs from him and that person becomes empty and abandoned by God. The result is that Satan, demons, and even witches and wizards, can attack, hurt or kill that person because there is no defence. We must be careful to lead a clean life of holiness all the days of our lives.</p>

<p><strong>Text: Matthew 13:53-58</strong></p>

<p id="block-0000bd0c-b481-46e4-bcf0-b7b6debc21aa"><strong>13:53</strong>   Now it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these parables, that He departed from there. </p>

<p><strong>13:55</strong>   Is this not the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary? And His brothers James, [<a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2013:53-58&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-23595a" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a</a>]Joses, Simon, and Judas? </p>

<p><strong>13:56</strong> And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this <em>Man</em> get all these things?” 57 So they were offended at Him.</p>

<p><strong>13:57</strong>  So they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.” </p>

<p><strong>13:58</strong> Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.</p>

<p id="block-74e06b4f-7111-4784-958d-f6198426ccf9"><strong>STUDY:</strong></p>

<p id="block-74e06b4f-7111-4784-958d-f6198426ccf9">Today&#8217;s reading shows how unbelief, familiarity and contempt can limit a person&#8217;s miracle and shorten the hand of God to hear, heal, help, save and deliver. When Jesus came to His own country, Nazareth, He taught the people and did mighty works there. But instead of the people rejoicing and saying that a great Prophet had risen among them, God had visited His people, they treated Jesus with contempt because they knew his house, his mother, his siblings, and his humble background.</p>

<p id="block-74e06b4f-7111-4784-958d-f6198426ccf9"> They did not bother to consider the truth and importance of his teachings and miracles. The attitude of Jesus&#8217; people can be summarised in the saying, &#8220;Familiarity breeds contempt.&#8221; Because of the unbelief of the people, Jesus did not do a mighty work there. He simply did a scanty work and left. Nowadays, similar things happen. Some people make themselves so familiar with the Church and God, that they no longer respect God or His presence. Some church members abuse and disrespect their pastors and gossip with them. </p>

<p id="block-74e06b4f-7111-4784-958d-f6198426ccf9">Some Christians come late to Church without good reasons; some others mismanage church or fellowship resources because they feel they are close to the General Overseer, or people in authority. In a church or fellowship where people treat God, His ministers or property with contempt, it shows unbelief and God will not do many mighty works there. If you need miracles, blessings and God&#8217;s favour, treat Him and His servants with deep respect.</p>

<p id="block-74e06b4f-7111-4784-958d-f6198426ccf9">During the dedication of the temple, Solomon offered to God peace offerings of 22,000 cattle and 120,000 sheep and goats. The same day, Solomon dedicated the middle of the Court that was before the Lord; he offered burnt offerings, grain offerings and the fat of peace offerings. The said offerings were so abundant that the small brazen altar in the Lord&#8217;s presence could not contain them; therefore Solomon offered them on the middle of the Court.<br>Solomon had a generous heart towards God. Just do a rough estimate of the monetary value of 22,000 cattle and 120,000 sheep and goats today and see how much Solomon gave to the Lord; then estimate the abundant burnt, grains and fat offerings which he also offered to God the same day. 2 Corinthians 8:5 emphasises giving bountifully while verse 7 tells us that God loves a cheerful giver. </p>

<p id="block-74e06b4f-7111-4784-958d-f6198426ccf9">Some Christians do not give to God; others give sparingly. Some people put their money to empty things that will attract the praise of men, but are unwilling to give to God. If you check the offering boxes of some churches and ministries, you will see people giving economically. Some persons cannot give to God unless a Preacher persuades or cajoles them. The conclusion of the matter is this: If you give, it will be given to you. If you give to God abundantly and cheerfully, He will love you and provide for you abundantly just as He loved and provided for Solomon abundantly.</p>

<p id="block-74e06b4f-7111-4784-958d-f6198426ccf9"><strong>STUDY:</strong></p>

<p id="block-74e06b4f-7111-4784-958d-f6198426ccf9">During the dedication of the temple, when Solomon finished praying series of prayers unto God, he stood up in front of the altar where he knelt, raised his hands towards heaven and blessed the people. In blessing the people, he did it in such a way as not to take over the functions of a Priest. His prayer was systematic. He praised the Lord who had given rest to his people, and also proclaimed the faithfulness of God. </p>

<p id="block-74e06b4f-7111-4784-958d-f6198426ccf9">After thanking God and acknowledging His faithfulness; he made 5 basic requests: (a) He prayed for God&#8217;s presence (v. 57) (b) He prayed that God would give them the desire to do His will in everything (v. 58) (c) He prayed for the desire and ability to obey God&#8217;s decrees and commands (v. 58) (d) He prayed for help with each day&#8217;s needs (v. 49) (e) He prayed for the extension of God&#8217;s kingdom to the entire world. These prayer by Solomon are applicable for today&#8217;s daily living. In fact, the prayer is the same with the Lord&#8217;s Prayer which Jesus taught us. We need to adore and praise God in our prayer, and also ask for His constant presence with us and in our daily needs.</p>

<p id="block-74e06b4f-7111-4784-958d-f6198426ccf9"><strong>STUDY:</strong></p>

<p id="block-74e06b4f-7111-4784-958d-f6198426ccf9">As we conclude Solomon&#8217;s prayer of dedication at the temple, we need to think of prayer as something we cannot live without. The importance of prayer as a means of communicating with God is emphasised here, highlighting the power of approaching God with humility. There is a confidence displayed by Solomon over what God is capable of doing in the temple. We must learn from this because God is more than able to take care of us.<br>Trusting God is the best we can do in our daily living. </p>

<p id="block-74e06b4f-7111-4784-958d-f6198426ccf9">In times of facing battles against the enemy, sin, or exile, we should remember that &#8220;If they turn to you with their whole heart and soul in the land of their enemies and pray toward the land you gave to their ancestors—toward this city you have chosen, and toward this Temple I have built to honor your name—then hear their prayers and their petition from heaven where you live, and uphold their cause&#8221; (vv. 48 &amp; 49). We are reminded of the need to pray continually (1 Thess. 5:17) and pray fervently (James 5:16). If we look up to God in everything by prayer, He is sure to help us out in everything.</p>

<p><strong>Text: Luke 10:1-9</strong></p>

<p id="block-0000bd0c-b481-46e4-bcf0-b7b6debc21aa"><strong>10:1</strong> &nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>&nbsp;</strong>After these things the Lord appointed [<a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke%2010%3A1-9&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-25365a" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a</a>]seventy others also, and sent them two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was about to go</p>

<p id="block-33d2fabf-a866-4400-8205-977ae08181c0"><strong>10:2</strong> &nbsp; Then He said to them, “The harvest truly <em>is</em> great, but the laborers <em>are</em> few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.</p>

<p><strong>10:3</strong>&nbsp;Then the king turned around and blessed the whole assembly of Israel, while all the assembly of Israel was standing.</p>

<p><strong>10:4</strong> And he said: “Blessed <em>be</em> the Lord God of Israel, who spoke with His mouth to my father David, and with His hand has fulfilled <em>it,</em> saying,&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>10:5</strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;Since the day that I brought My people Israel out of Egypt, I have chosen no city from any tribe of Israel <em>in which</em> to build a house, that My name might be there; but I chose David to be over My people Israel.’</p>

<p><strong>10:6</strong> &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Now it was in the heart of my father David to build a [<a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Kings%208%3A12-21&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-9003a" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a</a>]temple for the name of the Lord God of Israel.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>10:7</strong>&nbsp;But the Lord said to my father David, ‘Whereas it was in your heart to build a temple for My name, you did well that it was in your heart.</p>

<p><strong>10:8</strong> Nevertheless you shall not build the temple, but your son who will come from your body, he shall build the temple for My name.’</p>

<p><strong>10:9</strong> &nbsp; So the Lord has fulfilled His word which He spoke; and I have [<a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Kings%208%3A12-21&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-9006b" target="_blank" rel="noopener">b</a>]filled the position of my father David, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised; and I have built a temple for the name of the Lord God of Israel</p>

<p id="block-74e06b4f-7111-4784-958d-f6198426ccf9">Today is St Luke the Evangelist&#8217;s day. Luke was one of the Disciples of Jesus Christ. He was a medical doctor by profession and attended to Paul in his missionary journeys. He was also the author of Luke and Acts of the Apostles. In this passage, Luke reminds us that the sheep know their shepherd very well. They listen to and recognise his voice and that is why they follow only their shepherd. It is difficult, if not impossible for them to follow a stranger. So as sheep, we must listen to the voice of the shepherd and follow him where he leads.<br>The illustration is fit for the present day Christian leaders who are likened to the shepherd.</p>

<p id="block-74e06b4f-7111-4784-958d-f6198426ccf9"> Christian leaders are here advised to go through the gate—the due process of raising church leaders—before they can lead others. There is also the process of officially assigning one to his/her place of assignment. The writer of Hebrews reminds us that &#8220;no one takes the honour upon himself…&#8221; (Heb. 5:4). The shepherd should have a sincere relationship and intimacy with the sheep. He should always provide the needed leadership with the needed courage at all times. And finally, he is expected to help the sheep find good pastures.</p>

<p>Dear Jesus, make me a good Christian leader who will be like you and who will be ready to lay down my life for the sheep I lead. Amen.</p>

<p id="block-0000bd0c-b481-46e4-bcf0-b7b6debc21aa"><strong>11:17</strong> &nbsp;&nbsp; So when Jesus came, He found that he had already been in the tomb four days.&nbsp;</p>

<p id="block-33d2fabf-a866-4400-8205-977ae08181c0"><strong>11:18</strong> &nbsp;&nbsp;Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, about [<a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John%2011:17-27&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-26542a" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a</a>]two miles away.</p>

<p><strong>11:19</strong> &nbsp; And many of the Jews had joined the women around Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.</p>

<p><strong>11:20</strong> Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met Him, but Mary was sitting in the house.</p>

<p><strong>11:21</strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;Now Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.</p>

<p><strong>11:22</strong> &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; But even now I know that whatever You ask of God, God will give You.”</p>

<p><strong>11:23</strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”</p>

<p><strong>11:24</strong> &nbsp;Martha said to Him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”</p>

<p><strong>11:25</strong> &nbsp;Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. </p>

<p><strong>11:26</strong>&nbsp;And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?</p>

<p><strong>11:27</strong> She said to Him, “Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”</p>

<p id="block-74e06b4f-7111-4784-958d-f6198426ccf9"><strong>STUDY:</strong></p>

<p id="block-74e06b4f-7111-4784-958d-f6198426ccf9">Jesus was informed of Lazarus&#8217; sickness but he delayed for some days until his death. By the time he arrived Bethany, he was told that Lazarus had been buried for four days. To reassure Martha of his ability to overcome death and his power over death, Jesus stated that He is the resurrection and life, though Martha did not understand what He meant.</p>

<p id="block-74e06b4f-7111-4784-958d-f6198426ccf9"><br>Death has no power around Jesus, for He swallowed death in victory (1 Cor. 15:57). By His death, burial, resurrection and glorious ascension, He defeated death and it no longer has power over Christians. Christians are partakers of the resurrection as Paul reminds us thus: &#8220;For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him&#8221; (1 Thess. 4:14). So for us to share in this, we need to believe Jesus now and always. Martha gave us an example when she responded, &#8220;Yes, Lord, I have always believed you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one who has come into the world from God&#8221; (v. 27).</p>
