Statement by Suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara on the State of Emergency in Rivers State

My dear people of Rivers,

I address you today with a sense of duty and composure as we navigate this challenging chapter in our state’s political history.

Since assuming office as your Governor, my actions have been guided by my constitutional oath and an unwavering commitment to the progress and security of Rivers State. Even amid political tensions, we have upheld the rule of law and prioritized the well-being of our people above all else.

Following President Tinubu’s intervention, we demonstrated good faith by implementing the agreed terms, including reinstating commissioners who had voluntarily resigned. Upon receiving the certified true copy of the Supreme Court’s judgment, we promptly took steps to restore constitutional order and stability in our state.

These efforts were not for personal gain but to foster peace and unity. However, certain members of the Rivers State House of Assembly repeatedly obstructed our attempts to achieve lasting reconciliation and progress.

Despite political disagreements, governance continued—salaries were paid, developmental projects moved forward, and Rivers State remained safe, secure, and peaceful under our leadership.

At this critical moment, I urge all Rivers people to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding. We will explore all legal and democratic avenues to ensure that our state’s stability and the principles of democracy are upheld.

We are a resilient people, and with wisdom, patience, and faith in our democratic institutions, we will overcome this challenge.

God bless Rivers State.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
