Topic: OBEDIENCE TO GOD’S PROVISION

Text: Exodus 16:22-26

16:22 And so it was, on the sixth day, that they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for each one. And all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses.

16:23 Then he said to them, “This is what the Lord has said: ‘Tomorrow is a Sabbath rest, a holy Sabbath to the Lord. Bake what you will bake today, and boil what you will boil; and lay up for yourselves all that remains, to be kept until morning.’

16:24 So they laid it up till morning, as Moses commanded; and it did not stink, nor were there any worms in it.

16:25 Then Moses said, “Eat that today, for today is a Sabbath to the Lord; today you will not find it in the field.

16:26Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there will be none.”

STUDY:

The narrative in Exodus 16:22-26 highlights God’s provision and His call for obedience. After providing manna in the wilderness, God instructed the Israelites to gather double portions on the 6th day to prepare for the Sabbath, a day of rest dedicated to Him (Exod. 16:23). This command emphasised the sanctity of the Sabbath and the need for trust in God’s daily provision. Despite clear instructions, some Israelites disobeyed by seeking manna on the Sabbath, revealing their lack of faith in God’s sufficiency (Exod. 16:25-26). This passage emphasises God’s desire for His people to honour His commandments and depend on Him fully.

We must learn the importance of trusting God’s provision and living in obedience to His Word (Matt. 6:11). In a world driven by self-reliance, we are called to recognise that God is our ultimate provider, meeting our needs in His timing and ways (Phil. 4:19). Observing rest and worship, as demonstrated by the Sabbath, allows us to realign our hearts with God and express our trust in His care. By heeding His instructions, we experience His blessings and peace, even in the midst of life’s uncertainties.

Text: John 16:29-33

16:29 His disciples said to Him, “See, now You are speaking plainly, and using no figure of speech!

16:30 Now we are sure that You know all things, and have no need that anyone should question You. By this we believe that You came forth from God.”

16:31 Jesus answered them, “Do you now believe?

16:32 I Indeed the hour is coming, yes, has now come, that you will be scattered, each to his own, and will leave Me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.

16:33These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

STUDY:

In John 16:29-33, the disciples express newfound clarity about Jesus’ teachings, declaring their belief in His divine mission (John 16:29-30). However, Jesus gently warns them that their faith will soon be tested. He foresees their scattering during His arrest and crucifixion, leaving Him alone, though He affirms that He is never truly alone because the Father is with Him (John 16:32). Despite the impending trials, Jesus concludes with a powerful promise: “In Me, you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). This assurance reflects Jesus’ victory over sin and death, offering His followers peace amid life’s storms.

This passage serves as a reminder for us to seek peace in Christ, and not in worldly circumstances. Challenges and tribulations must come (2 Tim. 3:12), but Jesus’ triumph assures us that we are never alone. By anchoring our faith in Him, we find courage to endure difficulties, knowing that His victory secures our ultimate hope (Rom. 8:37). His peace sustains us, enabling us to face life with confidence and joy, regardless of trials (Phil. 4:7).

Today’s passage highlights Jesus’ assurance to His disciples about the power of prayer in His name. He explains that, through His work on the Cross, they would have direct access to the Father (John 16:23). Jesus emphasises that asking in His name aligns prayers with His will and purpose, guaranteeing divine responses (John 16:24). His teaching reveals the intimate relationship believers can enjoy with the Father, rooted in His love for them because of their faith in Christ (John 16:27). These words point to the transformational power of Christ’s mission, which bridges the gap between humanity and God, granting believers the privilege of communion with the Father.

For Christian believers, this passage teaches us to approach prayer with boldness and faith, trusting in the Father’s love (Heb. 4:16). Praying in Jesus’ name is not a formula but a call to align our requests with His will and purpose (1 John 5:14-15). It assures us that God listens attentively to those who seek Him through Christ. This confidence inspires a deeper relationship with God, knowing that He delights in answering our prayers and fulfilling our joy (Psa. 37:4). Through prayer, we experience His peace and provision for every circumstance.

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, has advised young men to prioritise spiritual discernment and practical values when choosing a life partner, warning against marrying based solely on physical appearance or social expectations.

Speaking during the May edition of the Holy Ghost Service, Adeboye cautioned that focusing only on beauty could lead to poor decisions.

“There are many demons that are very beautiful. If you marry because of beauty, you might choose wrongly. If it’s beauty alone that leads you into marriage, it’s a deep trap,” he said.

The cleric also stressed the importance of domestic competence and hospitality, advising men not to marry women who lack basic home management skills.

“Don’t marry a girl who cannot cook,” he said, adding that qualities such as care, moderation, and responsibility are essential in building a stable home.

Adeboye further warned against entering marriages that begin with financial pressure, particularly weddings that could push couples into debt.

“No matter how close you are to a wedding, if the plans will cost you everything you have and put you in debt, call it off,” he advised.

On lifestyle choices, he cautioned against excessive focus on outward appearance, including heavy makeup and artificial enhancements, urging men to look beyond physical presentation when choosing a partner.

The cleric emphasised that strong marriages are built on character, discipline, and spiritual alignment rather than superficial attraction.

Meanwhile, Adeboye also reiterated his earlier position that the outcome of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election ultimately rests in God’s hands, noting that divine will supersedes human effort.

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, has stated that the outcome of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election has already been determined by God.

Adeboye made the remark on Saturday during a workers’ meeting held at the Redemption City along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, emphasising that human effort alone cannot decide who becomes president.

“The next president has already been decided by God who owns the universe. It is not something we can determine by human effort alone. The will of God will be done,” he said.

He urged Nigerians not to be overwhelmed by political tension, noting that the direction of the country ultimately rests in God’s hands.

“I never said we should not be involved in politics, but we must understand that God has the final say in the affairs of men,” he added.

As political activities begin to intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, Adeboye encouraged citizens to remain calm, prayerful, and law-abiding.

“We should do our part, but we should also keep on praying and trust God,” he said.

The cleric also addressed comments attributed to activist Omoyele Sowore, clarifying that his leadership role is limited to the RCCG and not the entire Christian community in Nigeria.

He acknowledged that the Christian Association of Nigeria serves as the recognised body representing Christians nationwide.

“I have never wanted to be the father of all Christians in Nigeria. I am satisfied with being the father of the Redeemed Christian Church of God,” he said.

Adeboye also dismissed claims that the RCCG is aligned with any political party, including the ruling All Progressives Congress, insisting that the church remains neutral.

He maintained that while politicians are free to attend services, they are not permitted to use the church altar for political campaigns.

On civic engagement, the cleric noted that he would not hesitate to participate in peaceful protests if called upon by CAN, adding that his stance on national issues is guided by principle.

He recalled participating in protests during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Topic: JOY AMID SORROW

Text: John 16:5-22

16:5 “But now I go away to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’

16:6 But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.

16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.

16:8 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

16:9 of sin, because they do not believe in Me

16:10 <sup> </sup>of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more;

16:11 of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.

16:12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.

16:13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

16:14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.

16:15 All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He [a]will take of Mine and declare it to you.

16:16 A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me, because I go to the Father.”

16:17 Then some of His disciples said among themselves, “What is this that He says to us, ‘A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me’; and, ‘because I go to the Father’?”

16:18 They said therefore, “What is this that He says, ‘A little while’? We do not [b]know what He is saying.”

16:19 Now Jesus knew that they desired to ask Him, and He said to them, “Are you inquiring among yourselves about what I said, ‘A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me’?

16:20 Most assuredly, I say to you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; and you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy

16:21 A woman, when she is in labor, has sorrow because her hour has come; but as soon as she has given birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world.

16:22 Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you.

In John 16:5-22, Jesus prepares His disciples for His imminent departure, assuring them that His going away, was for their benefit. He promises the coming of the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, who would guide them into all truth (John 16:7, 13). While Jesus acknowledges their sorrow at His departure (John 16:6), He offers hope by likening their grief to the labour pains of a woman giving birth, which turn into joy once the child is born (John 16:21). This analogy emphasizes that their temporary sorrow would result in eternal joy when they see Him again in His resurrected glory (John 16:22). Jesus’ words reflect His deep love for His disciples and His desire to prepare them for the transformative power of His resurrection and the Spirit’s indwelling.

Christians are reminded that life’s challenges often give way to outstanding spiritual joy when we trust in God’s purposes. Like the disciples, we may endure seasons of grief and uncertainty, but Jesus assures us of His abiding presence through the Holy Spirit (Rom. 8:26-27). This hope empowers us to persevere, knowing that our trials produce lasting joy in Christ (James 1:2-3). As we await His return, we are encouraged to live with the assurance of His victory over sorrow and death (1 Cor. 15:57).

The most detailed first-person primatial account yet of GAFCON’s invitation-only G26 Bishops Conference in Abuja has come from the Archbishop of Uganda, the Most Re. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, who reported to his province on April 2 that he led a delegation of 52 representatives to the March gathering — providing the first on-the-record account by a sitting primate of what took place at the meeting.

Speaking in his Easter message, delivered at a service broadcast live on UBC TV, NBS TV, Church of Uganda Family TV, and Namirembe FM, Kazimba described the scale of the gathering. “The conference, hosted by the Anglican Church of Nigeria, brought together 347 Anglican bishops and 121 clergy and lay leaders from 27 provinces across the Global Anglican Movement,” he said. His own delegation comprised 41 bishops, six clergy, and five laity.

The G26 gathering, held March 3-6 in Abuja, was a specialised bishops conference — not a full GAFCON Assembly. GAFCON’s own communications in May 2025 described it as a “specialised conference” distinct from its five-yearly assemblies, noting that the next full assembly, GAFCON V, is scheduled for Athens in 2028. The March gathering was convened by Archbishop Laurent Mbanda of Rwanda, then Chairman of the GAFCON Primates Council, who in December 2025 announced that invitations had been sent to 500 delegates across the global Anglican family.

Archbishop Kaziimba’s figures correspond exactly to those in the Abuja Affirmation, the communique issued on March 6 and signed by Archbishop Mbanda as Chairman of the newly constituted Global Anglican Council. The Affirmation opens: “Greetings from Abuja, Nigeria where 347 Anglican bishops and 121 lay and clerical Anglican leaders from 27 provinces met from 3-6 March 2026, generously hosted by our brothers and sisters in the Church of Nigeria.”

Kazimba described the principal institutional outcome of the conference. “The GAFCON Primates Council was transitioned into the newly established Global Anglican Council, which will bring together primates, advisors, and guarantors to provide the oversight and the recognition of provinces and dioceses within the emerging Global Anglican Communion,” he said. He named the new Council’s officers: Archbishop Mbanda of Rwanda as chair, Archbishop Miguel Uchoa of Brazil as deputy chair, and Bishop Paul Donison as General Secretary. Donison’s March 5 communique, issued the day before the Abuja Affirmation, confirmed those appointments and stated that the terms of all three “will conclude at the end of GAFCON V in Athens in 2028.”

The Abuja Affirmation sets out the basis and mandate of the new body. The Council “will acknowledge and welcome existing provinces and dioceses who desire to participate in the Global Anglican Communion, and will be responsible for inviting new Primates to a seat on the Council” as well as authenticating “newly formed provinces and dioceses who seek recognition as Global Anglicans.” Membership of the Council consists of three categories of voting member: primates, advisors, and guarantors.

The Affirmation’s section on “Principled Disengagement” states that leaders holding office in the Global Anglican Council must not attend future Primates’ Meetings called by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Lambeth Conference, or Anglican Consultative Council meetings, and that office holders who “continue to participate in any Canterbury Instruments will not be able to continue in this role.”

Archbishop Kaziimba connected the conference’s work directly to the Easter season. “The fellowship, which began within the Holy Communion service, continues to play a significant role in shaping what many have described as reordering of the Anglican Global Structures,” he said. He placed the gathering within a wider account of conflict and Christian witness. “I want to invite you to pray for the Middle East,” he told his congregation. “The situation is not good. It can affect all of us.” He connected the regional war to its effects closer to home: “I understand now the prices of gas has gone up. Even where I come from, from Rubukonjo, the banana prices have gone up. And I ask, ‘Why?’ They say because of the war in Middle East. So, all of us are equally affected.”

Following the Abuja conference, Archbishop Kaziimba travelled to Cairo on March 7 to attend the Global Council meeting of the Anglican Relief and Development Fund, where he serves as a trustee. He noted the Fund’s work in Uganda, including emergency response at the Nakivale refugee settlement, support to Sebei diocese for a medical facility, and a commitment to fund the Mama Margaret Kazimba Health Facility in Mityana-Mukono diocese, with the first phase expected to be commissioned later this year.

The Easter message was delivered to the Church of Uganda’s annual Easter gathering and broadcast across multiple Ugandan national television and radio networks.

The Anglican Church of Korea’s Seoul Cathedral announced Wednesday that it will hold a Thanksgiving Eucharist and commemorative ceremony on May 3 to mark the 100th anniversary of the cathedral’s consecration.

Seoul Cathedral first opened its doors in Jeong-dong, Seoul, on May 2, 1926. The Romanesque-style cathedral was designed by British architect Arthur Dixon. “The first consecration service was held in the darkness of Japanese colonial rule, prayers continued amid the gunfire of the Korean War, and the cathedral has witnessed God’s presence through the turbulent periods of industrialization and democratization,” the Anglican Church of Korea said of the cathedral’s history.

The Thanksgiving Eucharist on May 3 will begin with 100 bell tolls honoring the past century. The ceremony will proceed with a ritual opening of the cathedral doors as on the first day of consecration, followed by a procession in which believers of all generations enter the cathedral step by step. The service will be concelebrated by successive bishops of the Seoul Diocese. At the commemorative ceremony held the same day, a newly crafted commemorative cross—based on the crosses distributed to believers at the cathedral’s consecration 100 years ago—will be presented to congregants as a symbol of the centennial.

“The 100th anniversary Thanksgiving Eucharist is not simply an occasion to celebrate a long history,” said Father Park Sung-soon, the cathedral’s chief priest. “It is a moment to stand in gratitude before the history of grace that God has accomplished through this cathedral, while also responding to the call of a new century.”

The Thanksgiving Eucharist and commemorative ceremony are open to all, regardless of religious affiliation.

The Church in Wales’ vote last week to make permanent its provision for same-sex blessings has drawn a sharp response from Bishop Stuart Bell, who warns the decision will lead to further departures from the province.

In an exclusive statement to Anglican.Ink, Bishop Bell said the move confirms that hopes for a return to what he described as the clear teaching of Scripture have not been realized, and that a new wave of clergy and laity is now likely to leave.

The Church in Wales is about to lose another tranche of clergy, lay leaders and church members after its decision to make permanent a service of blessing for same-sex couples. Many left at the beginning of the experimental period of provision in 2021 whilst others have been waiting to see if the passage of five years would be sufficient to bring the church back to the clear teachings of Scripture on the subject of human relationships. Clearly not.

Archdeacon Andy Grimwood warned the Governing Body of the Church in Wales quite prophetically that pain lay ahead if they ignored the views of orthodox members both in Wales and the Global Anglican Communion. Regrettably, they deliberately and dismissively voted against the Bible.

What makes it hardest of all to bear is that it doesn’t have to be like this, although at least the Anglican Convocation Europe is here to welcome all those who can no longer bear the direction of travel of the Church in Wales.

The Governing Body’s decision formalizes a provision first introduced on an experimental basis in 2021. While some left at that time, others remained in the Church in Wales in the expectation that the measure might not be made permanent.

Warnings about the consequences of such a move were raised during the debate. Archdeacon Andy Grimwood told members that proceeding without regard for orthodox Anglicans in Wales and across the wider Communion would lead to division. Bishop Bell’s statement indicates that those concerns are now being realized.

The Anglican Convocation Europe (ACE), with which Bishop Bell is associated, has signaled that it is prepared to receive clergy and congregations seeking alternative oversight. His remarks present ACE as an option for those who conclude they cannot remain under the Church in Wales’ current direction.

The vote places the Church in Wales alongside other Anglican provinces that have authorized blessings for same-sex couples, a development that continues to deepen divisions within the Anglican Communion, particularly among provinces that maintain traditional teaching on marriage.

Further departures and realignments are expected in the months ahead.
