On Monday night, the FCT Police Command reported that preliminary investigations revealed three men from Katsina had visited Mallam Adamu Ashimu, the owner of an Islamic school in Kuchibuyi village, Bwari Area Council, where an IED explosion occurred. The blast resulted in the deaths of two of the men.
The Police statement read: “The three men are suspected of bringing the explosive device with them. Tragically, two of the men died while tampering with the IED on the school veranda. The third man and a female trader sustained severe injuries and are currently under police guard, receiving medical treatment. The FCT Bomb Squad confirmed the explosion was caused by an IED, as remnants of the device have been recovered.”
SP Josephine Adeh, the Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and stated that Mallam Adamu Ashimu was taken into custody for questioning, with further updates to be provided in due course.
The Police issued the following statement: “The FCT Police Command regrets to inform the public of the tragic bomb explosion on January 6, at approximately 11 a.m., at Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School in Kuchibuyi Village, Byazhin area of the FCT. After receiving a distress call from the Sarki of Kuchibuyi, police operatives, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team and the Area Commander of Kubwa, swiftly responded. The area was cordoned off to protect residents and allow for a thorough investigation. Victims were evacuated and rushed to the hospital.
