Gaza’s Hamas government said Sunday that the death toll from fighting between Israeli troops and Hamas militants in the Palestinian territory had reached 13,000 since the war began on October 7. Hamas gunmen killed around 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and captured around 240 more as hostages, according to Israel, when they surged over the militarised Gaza border. The All Africa Conference of Churches Youth Pre-Assembly has called for increased investment in youth development to address unemployment, political and economic instability on the continent. Chairperson of the youth pre-assembly steering committee, Afika Rwayi, made the call at the opening of the conference at St. Matthias House, Gudu in Abuja on Friday. The High Court sitting in the Federal Capital Territory has ordered that the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, be remanded in the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the determination of his bail request. Emefiele is standing trial on an alleged procurement fraud. The trial which had been stalled on three occasions finally held on Friday. The Federal Government had initially preferred 20 charges  procurement fraud to the tune of N6.5 billion against the former CBN governor.
