The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali-Baba, has promoted a total of 31,465 policemen comprising 24,991 officers from the tanks of Sergeants to Inspectors, 194 from Corporals to Sergeants, and 6,280 from Constables to Corporals. Talks between the Federal Government and organised labour over the removal of fuel subsidy ended in a deadlock on Wednesday as they failed to reach a consensus following the hike in petrol pump prices to over N700 from N195 per litre by oil marketers. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has jerked up pump prices of petrol, also known as Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from N195 per litre to 537 per litre. According to a new price template disclosed by NNPLC Lagos State has the least price of N488 per litre, while Maiduguri and Damaturu have the highest pump prices of N577 per litre. The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has dismissed five personnel, including a Deputy Director, for various offences. The offences range from corruption; demanding and receiving bribes from suspects and relatives; leaking confidential information to suspects that endangered the lives of colleagues; violation of oath of secrecy; stealing and alteration of official records, and absence without official leave.
