It was reported in September 2022 that the Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo, announced at plenary that Kadiri had been suspended “in line with the provisions of Sections 14 and 15 of the Legislative Houses (Powers and Privileges) Act, 2017.”

Oluomo said he received a resolution by an appropriate number of house members that Kadiri and one other breached the provision of the Legislative Houses (Power and Privileges) Act, 2017 and “they stand suspended.”

Kadiri has since then approached the court, calling for the reversal of his suspension by the Assembly.

Ruling on Friday, Justice O. A. Onafowokan of High Court 3, Abeokuta judicial division, held that Kadiri’s suspension was an abuse of power and abuse of office by the Speaker, the Assembly and the Clerk.

Onafowokan also directed that all emoluments due to to the Ijebu North II State Constituency lawmaker be paid immediately by the Assembly.

The President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has petitioned the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, to sanction Channels Television for breaching the Nigerian Broadcasting Code during an interview with the Vice-Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Datti Baba Ahmed.

In the petition signed by the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential campaign council Director of Media and Publicity, Bayo Onanuga, dated 30th March 2023, Tinubu said: “In line with Section 14.0.1 of the Nigerian Broadcasting Code 6th edition stating the duty of the commission to accept complaints from aggrieved persons, bodies or members of the public and investigate as well as apply sanctions where necessary, the APC PCC hereby petitions the commission on breaches by CHANNELS TV on its programme ‘Politics Today’ last week.”

Tinubu accused Baba Ahmed of making several comments attacking the integrity of the 25th February 2023 Presidential elections. In the interview, he faulted the emergence of the former Lagos governor as the President-elect and categorically requested the Chief Justice of Nigeria and President Muhamadu Buhari not to swear him in.

In his petition, Tinubu noted that the host of the show should have cautioned the Datti for making such unguarded comments and that for failing to do so, the station should be sanctioned.

According to the petition,” The guest on the programme in question, Datti Baba-Ahmed, said President Muhammadu Buhari should not swear in the President-elect because he did not score 25% of the vote in the FCT, being one of the prerequisites for being declared the winner. This is a subversive comment since the matter is among the issues submitted in their petition before the tribunal for adjudication. Therefore, until the court rules otherwise, the status quo is the INEC position as declared in the final results.

Barely 24 hours after the suspension of the National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, at the ward level in Benue State, a high court order surfaced asking Ayu to stop parading himself as PDP’s chairman.

However, a statement on Monday by Ayu’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Simon Imobo-Tswam, described the suspension and court order as a mere exercise in futility.

The action by the national leadership did not go down well with the G5 governors made of Nyesom Wike of Rivers, Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), and Ortom.

Meanwhile, Atiku’s camp has not hidden its support for Ayu, according to the spokesman of PDP’s Presidential Campaign Committee, Charles Aniagwu; he said Wike should be blamed for the crisis rocking PDP in Benue.

Having faith in God does not mean that one should not take medication when he or she is sick. Anyone who does that is going too far in the exercise of his or her faith. Such is also a clear indication that the individual does not know what faith in God is.

There is nowhere in the Bible we read that if you have faith in God you cannot take any medication. One’s faith in God should enable him/her to believe that the medication will work. Today, there are some Christians who have fine-tuned the Bible to suit their personal and selfish theology and are thus causing serious problems in the household of God.

My question to anyone that refuses to go to the hospital for treatment but goes to a prayer house is: whom is he/she going to meet in that prayer house? The person offering that prayer is praying to whom? Why don’t you pray to that same God yourself? Prayer does not prevent you from taking medication.
There are examples from the Bible that encourage people to go to the hospital for treatment.

Refusing to go to the hospital for treatment is wrong. Our faith can carry us even to the hospital and still believe that God will use that medication to heal us and if in the end we do not get healed then that is God’s will for us. We may not understand but we believe Him.
Believing in God does not stop us from taking medicine and nobody should deceive us by playing God. Let’s be warned.

A pastor was diagnosed with Hypertension years ago but after finishing his one-month medications prescribed never went back to the doctors for a follow-up. He also suffered from undiagnosed Diabetes and High Cholesterol. Unfortunately,y about 5 years later he suffered a massive stroke that left him permanently paralyzed and now unable to do ministry. He of course blamed it on an ‘attack from the enemy’. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated case.

As a physician who has been a practicing born-again, devil-chasing, demon-rebuking, tongue-speaking Christian for over 25 years I have seen so many unnecessary debilitating outcomes that could have been prevented if simple treatments were initiated earlier. Unfortunately, when these dangerous spiritual positions are held by pastors, their poor congregations follow them as their spiritual leaders into dangerous situations.

Registrar of NECO, Prof Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, who made the announcement in Minna, Niger State, said, 59,124 candidates sat for the examination, with 31,316 males, representing 52.96 per cent, while 27,808, representing 47.03 per cent were female.

Wushishi added that the number of candidates that sat for English Language is 58,012, out of which 44,162, representing 76.13 per cent got credit and above, while the number of candidates that sat for mathematics is 57,700, out of which 43,096, representing 74.69 per cent got credit and above.

He further disclosed that the number of candidates who got five Credits and above, including English Language and mathematics is 33,914 representing 57.36 per cent.

“Also 46,825 candidates, representing 79.20% got five (5) credits and above irrespective of English Language and mathematics,” he said.

On the issue of examination malpractice, he said 11,419 candidates were booked for various forms of malpractice, as against 4,454 in 2021, which shows a sharp rise in the number of malpractice cases.

According to him, this is largely due to the improvement in the strategy and technique adopted by the monitoring officers.

“This led to the blacklisting of four (4) supervisors, one (1) each from Rivers and Plateau States and two (2) from Ogun State for aiding and abetting as well as poor supervision,” he said.

It would be recalled that the 2022 Senior School Certificate Examination, SSCE, External was conducted by NECO from 21 November to 21 December 2022. The result was released after 57 days.

In the information updated on Wednesday, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, FCDO, warned against areas where there are banks and ATMs.

It noted that the Central Bank of Nigeria’s redesigning and issue of new N200, N500 and N1000 notes has led to shortages of cash.

Citizens were encouraged to ensure notes provided by currency exchange vendors will be valid for the duration of their travel to Nigeria.

There have been outbreaks of violence in some Southern states as a result of cash shortages, with a risk of other urban areas being impacted across the country.

The U.K. observed a spike in criminal activity, advising its nationals to take extra precautions particularly when withdrawing cash in crowded spaces, and during night time hours.

They were also cautioned against travels Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Gombe, Kaduna, Katsina, Zamfara, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River States.

The FCDO advises against all but essential travel to Bauchi, Kano, Jigawa, Niger, Sokoto, Kogi, Niger, Kebbi, Abia, Plateau and Taraba States.

The UK government also mentioned the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control’s announcement of the online Health Declaration Form for incoming travellers.

The advice said ahead of the general elections movement restrictions may be enforced while there is heightened risk of protests and violence.

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the restoration of the old N200 notes as legal tender.

He made this announcement in a national broadcast on Thursday morning.

According to him, this is to further ease the supply pressures, particularly to citizens, as he has given the approval to the CBN that the old N200 bank notes be released back into circulation.

“And that it should also be allowed to circulate as legal tender with the new N200, N500, and N1000 banknotes for 60 days from February 10, 2023 to April 10 2023 when the old N200 notes cease to be legal tender.

“Considering the health of our economy and the legacy we must bequeath to the next administration and future generations of Nigerians, I admonish every citizen to strive harder to make their deposits by taking advantage of the platforms and windows being provided by the CBN,” he said.

“Let me assure Nigerians that our administration will continue to assess the implementation with a view to ensuring that Nigerians are not unnecessarily burdened. In this regard, the CBN shall ensure that new notes become more available and accessible to our citizens through the banks.

“I wish to once more appeal for your understanding till we overcome this difficult transient phase within the shortest possible time,” Buhari added.

Buhari’s confirmation comes after the Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, disclosed that the Federal Government had proposed to allow only the old N200 notes to remain legal tender till April 10, 2023.

This was contained in a statement on Wednesday by Muyiwa Adekeye, Special Adviser on Media & Communication to Governor El-Rufai.
