A student of the Federal University of Technology Owerri, FUTO, Owerri, has died while several others sustained injuries in a cult-related incident. The incident took place on Friday morning when students from Imo State University, IMSU, entered the FUTO campus in a motorcycle convoy, leading to a confrontation. Residents of Gonin-Gora in the troubled Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Thursday barricaded the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway protesting the abduction of an unspecified number of people in the area. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, on Wednesday, said the importation of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, into Nigeria has reduced by 50 per cent since the withdrawal of subsidy on the commodity. No fewer than nine people have died of Lassa fever in Benue State in the past two months. The State Epidemiologist, Dr Sam Ngishe, disclosed this to journalists in a telephone chat on Thursday. This comes after the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention said it has recorded 2,621 suspected Lassa fever cases and 84 deaths with a case fatality rate of 18.6 per cent.
