24:2 But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb.

24:3 Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.

24:4 And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments.

24:5 Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead?

24:6He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee,

24:7 saying, ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’ ”

24:8 And they remembered His words.

STUDY:

Early on the first day of the week, the women who followed Jesus came to the tomb with spices to anoint His body. They were surprised to find the stone rolled away and the tomb empty. Two angels appeared, saying,”Why do you seek the living among the dead?”“He is not here;He has risen!” and reminded them of Jesus’ words about His resurrection. This pivotal moment transformed their sorrow into joy, as they realised that death has been defeated and hope restored. Then they became heralds of the good news of the resurrection.

The resurrection is the cornerstone of our faith. Jesus triumphed over sin and death, demonstrating God’s power to redeem every situation. The angels’message serves as a powerful reminder that God’s promises are fulfilled, even when circumstances seem bleak. As we reflect on this passage, we must consider the areas in our lives where hope seems lost. Let the joyof the empty tomb fill our hearts and propel us to live boldly in faith, sharing the hope found in Christ. The Bible tells us that those who trust in Christ will share in His resurrection. Go and share the good news. Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!

Christ is risen. He is risen indeed. Alleluia!

There is an African Proverb that says, “However, long the night, the dawn will break.”

On this glorious day, Christians across every tongue, tribe, and nation gather together to proclaim the most world-changing truth in all of human history: the tomb is empty, death is defeated, and Jesus Christ reigns as Lord.

Easter is not just a symbol or a season. It is a fact — the bodily resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, the first-fruits of a new creation.

Because He lives, we live. Because He has conquered sin and death, there is no corner of this earth, no depth of suffering, no weight of grief that stands beyond the reach of His resurrection power and endless love.

To our brothers and sisters around the world — in seasons of joy and in seasons of persecution — we say with one voice: Hold fast in the hope of the resurrection. The risen Christ holds you, He sees you, and He hears your prayers.

He who walked out of the grave on the third day is the same Lord who walks with you today. And as we joyfully proclaim every week in our services, Christ has died, Christ has risen, Christ will come again.

This Easter, may the living hope of the resurrection fill your hearts, strengthen your faith, and send you out as witnesses to the world that Jesus Christ is alive — and that His Kingdom shall have no end.

Let us pray together:

Almighty God, who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ overcame death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life: Grant that we, who celebrate with joy the day of the Lord’s resurrection, may, by your life-giving Spirit, be delivered from sin and raised from death; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Grace and peace,

The Most Revd Dr Laurent Mbanda
Chairman of the Global Anglican Council
Easter Day, 5th April, 2026

Topic: HE IS RISEN!

Text: John 20:1-18

20:1 Now the first day of the week Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb.

20:2 Then she ran and came to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid Him.”

20:3 Peter therefore went out, and the other disciple, and were going to the tomb.

20:4 So they both ran together, and the other disciple outran Peter and came to the tomb first.

20:5 And he, stooping down and looking in, saw the linen cloths lying there; yet he did not go in.

20:6 B Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb; and he saw the linen cloths lying there,

20:7 and the handkerchief that had been around His head, not lying with the linen cloths, but folded together in a place by itself.

20:8 Then the other disciple, who came to the tomb first, went in also; and he saw and believed.

20:9 For as yet they did not know the Scripture, that He must rise again from the dead.

20:10 Then the disciples went away again to their own homes

20:11 But Mary stood outside by the tomb weeping, and as she wept she stooped down and looked into the tomb.

20:12 And she saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.

20:13 Then they said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him.”

20:14 Now when she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, and did not know that it was Jesus.

20:15 Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” She, supposing Him to be the gardener, said to Him, “Sir, if You have carried Him away, tell me where You have laid Him, and I will take Him away.”

20:16 Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to Him, “Rabboni!” (which is to say, Teacher).

20:17 Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.’ ”

20:18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that He had spoken these things to her.

STUDY:

The religious leaders of old consciously looked for reasons to condemn Jesus Christ and His ministry. In our text today, they came with the question of the source of the authority with which He worked. It was not as if Jesus was not sure of the right answer to the question, but He had perceived that they didn’t mean well, and were only expecting an answer to justify their crooked intentions. He decided to manifest divine wisdom by throwing a hard question at them. John the Baptist, whose baptism exercise on Jesus Christ was a divine confirmation of His ministry (Matt.3:16-17), was recognised by them and the people as having come from God, so, they couldn’t play with the people just for their evil intentions against Jesus.

We live in a world that employs every possible means to discredit us. Sometimes, Christians are set up in order to destroy up their God-given ministry. The divine wisdom manifested by Jesus in this instance is a great example to us. However, the manifestation of divine wisdom is very rare without the influence of the Holy Spirit. We are not only to desire to be filled by the Spirit of God, we are to walk in communion with Him daily. By this, we will escape all the traps of the evil one.

Prayer:

STUDY:

Our text today describes the burial of Jesus Christ, highlighting the piety and courage of Joseph of Arimathea, a member of the Sanhedrin, whohad not consented to the council’s decision to crucify Jesus (Luke 23:50-51). He went to Pilate and requested Jesus’ body, demonstrating his faith and willingness to defy the authorities. Joseph wrapped Jesus’ body in linen cloth and spices, following Jewish burial customs (Luke 23:54-56, John 19:39-40). Women came from Galilee and accompanied him as he laid Jesus in a new tomb, cut out of rock, which belonged to him.

Despite the risk to his reputation, Joseph took a bold stand for Jesus, showing that true discipleship often involves courage and commitmet even in the face of fear. The Lord wants us all to take a stand for Him in this hostile world. Do you have such courageous faith like Joseph? Are you willing to stand up for what is right, even if it means going against the majority. This from of commitment is hard to come by in our generation. But it can start with you. The more people are not ashamed of their faith, the more it will challenge others as well.

The Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Paul Enenche, has called for the urgent arrest and prosecution of individuals responsible for killings across Nigeria, stressing that perpetrators must be brought to justice without delay.

Enenche made the call on Wednesday during the April 2026 Preservation and Power Communion Service held at the church’s headquarters in Abuja.

Expressing concern over the persistent wave of insecurity in the country, the cleric said cases involving killings should be treated with utmost urgency, insisting that it should not take more than a few weeks, or at most one month, for offenders to be apprehended and prosecuted.

According to him, decisive and swift action is key to curbing the growing trend of violence, noting that targeting key figures behind criminal activities could significantly reduce insecurity.

He cited an example of a foreign leader who, upon assuming office, tackled insecurity in the nation’s capital by ordering the immediate arrest of criminal gang leaders within a short period.

Enenche explained that the directive led to the capture of the gang leaders, effectively dismantling organised criminal networks and restoring order.

He argued that addressing crime at its root by going after those at the top would yield more effective results than focusing only on minor offenders.

The cleric also warned that failure to act decisively could raise concerns about possible complicity or indifference within the system.

He further decried what he described as the growing normalisation of killings in Nigeria, insisting that such a situation is unacceptable.

Enenche called on Nigerians to unite in prayer for the country, seeking divine intervention to overcome the ongoing security challenges.

He said, “How many of you are in agreement with what I just said? That those who kill people from now forward should be brought to book urgently. Urgently, urgently. It should not take two, three weeks, highest a month. They are brought to book.

“I heard of what one president of a nation did, and I watched it some time ago.

“When he came, his city, capital of that nation, was the most insecure place in the country. And he called the head of police and he said, ‘Are you watching this insecurity, right? I want you to arrest for me, within the next one or two weeks, the head of every criminal gang in the city. Go and do it with urgency.’

“They arrested all of the heads of the groups.

“He gathered all of them and took them there. No court, nothing. All of them disappeared that night.

“That was the summary of criminality. When the head of the snake is caught, the rest scatter.”

This comes a few days after 26 people were killed and several others injured in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State on Sunday.

Topic: HOPE IN THE DARKEST HOUR

Text: : Luke 23:33-49

23:33 And when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left.

23:34 Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do. And they divided His garments and cast lots.

23:35 And the people stood looking on. But even the rulers with them sneered, saying, “He saved others; let Him save Himself if He is the Christ, the chosen of God.”

23:36 The soldiers also mocked Him, coming and offering Him sour wine,

23:37 and saying, “If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself.”

23:38 And an inscription also was written over Him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

23:39 Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, “If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us.”

23:40 But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation?

23:41 And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong.

23:42 Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.”

23:43 And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”

23:44 Now it was about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.

23:45 Then the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in two.

23:46 And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, “Father, ‘into Your hands I commit My spirit.’ ” Having said this, He breathed His last.

23:47 So when the centurion saw what had happened, he glorified God, saying, “Certainly this was a righteous Man!”

23:48 And the whole crowd who came together to that sight, seeing what had been done, beat their breasts and returned.

23:49 But all His acquaintances, and the women who followed Him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.

STUDY:

Today’s passage describes the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and highlights His final moments on the cross. As Jesus hung on the cross, He prayed for those wwho crucified Him, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing” (Luke 23:34). This demonstration of forgiveness and compassion amazed a Roman centurion, who later declared Jesus a righteous man (Luke 23:47). Meanwhile, one of the criminals crucified alongside Jesus, recognized His righteousness and divinity and appealed,”Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom” (Luke 23:42). Jesus responded with gracious assurance, “Today, you will be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:43). Even in His darkest hour, Jesus offered salvation and hope to those around Him.

Beloved in Christ, Jesus’ prayer for His persecutors demonstrates the importance of forgiving others in the face of injustice. It might be difficult but God calls us to a life of forgiveness, even to the undeserving. Jesus’ promise to the criminal illustrates God’s willingness to save and forgive, regardless of past mistakes. Whatever evil or crime one has done is no barrier for acceptance into the kingdom of God. Jesus offers direct access to salvation to persons worthy of the most extreme punishment for their sins. It is never too late for anyone who is willing to repent and receive Jesus today. There is hope even in the darkest hour.

Text: John 13:1-15

13:1 Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that His hour had come that He should depart from this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.

13:2 And supper being ended, the devil having already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray Him,

13:3 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God,

13:4 rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself.

13:5After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.

13:6 Then He came to Simon Peter. And Peter said to Him, “Lord, are You washing my feet?”

13:7 Jesus answered and said to him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will know after this.”

13:8 Peter said to Him, “You shall never wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.”

13:9 Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!”

13:10 Jesus said to him, “He who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you.”

13:11 For He knew who would betray Him; therefore He said, “You are not all clean.”

13:12 So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you?

13:13 You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am.

13:14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.

13:15 For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.

STUDY:

Christians observe today as Maundy Thursday or Holy Thursday, which is the Thursday before Easter that commemorates the washing of feet and the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the disciples, as described in the canonical gospels. In our passage today, Jesus, being fully aware that His hour had come and that He was to depart from this world, got up, girded himself with a towel and proceeded to do what only household servants were expected to do. He assumed the highly unpleasant task of washing everyone’s feet. When Peter protested, Jesus explained that unless He washed him, he would have no part with Him.

The heart of true service is in putting others before ourselves. Jesus showed that greatness in His kingdom is measured by our willingness to serve others and care for their needs. We are to embrace the example of Jesus, recognising that every act of service, no matter how small, is significant in the eyes ofGod. As we serve others, we reflect His love and deepen our relationship with Him. We are to do this, not only for those who treat us well, but even for those who disappoint, hurt and betray us.

20:11 Again he sent another servant; and they beat him also, treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty-handed.

20:12 And again he sent a third; and they wounded him also and cast him out.

20:13 “Then the owner of the vineyard said, ‘What shall I do? I will send my beloved son. Probably they will respect him when they see him.’

20:14 But when the vinedressers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.’

20:15 So they cast him out of the vineyard and killed him. Therefore what will the owner of the vineyard do to them?

20:16 He will come and destroy those vinedressers and give the vineyard to others.” And when they heard it they said, “Certainly not!”

20:17 Then He looked at them and said, “What then is this that is written: ‘The stone which the builders rejected
Has become the chief cornerstone’?

20:18 Whoever falls on that stone will be broken; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder.”

Today’s passage talks about Jesus’response to the chief priests’ and elders’question about His authority to do all that He was doing (v.2). In the parable, a landowner entrusted his vineyard into the hands of tenant workers. When the landowner sent his servants to collect his share of the fruits, the tenants beat them, drove some away, and killed some. Finally, the owner sent his only beloved son, thinking they would respect him. But the tenants rejected and killed him too, hoping to seize the inheritance. In this parable, the landowner represents God, the vineyard is His Kingdom, the tenants are religious leaders, the servants are God’s prophets while the beloved son is Jesus Christ.

Brethren, our lives, gifts, and resources are meant to bear fruit for God’s kingdom. Like the tenants, we can fall into the trap of thinking that we own what we have been given, forgetting that we are accountable to the true Owner. When we reject His calls to repentance and stewardship, we risk losing the very blessings we have been given. Are you a faithful steward of what God has entrusted into your hands? Reflect on how you are responding to God’s grace and whether you are producing fruit for Him. We must honour the Lord with our lives and respond to His grace by bearing fruit that glorifies Him.

The Vice-Chancellor of Elizade University, Professor Philip Oguntunde, has cautioned parents against sending their children abroad for undergraduate studies at an early age, warning that the decision often comes with unintended consequences.

Oguntunde gave the advice during a town-and-gown engagement with secondary school administrators, where he highlighted the growing social and emotional impact of exposing young students to foreign environments too soon.

According to him, many parents, in their quest for better opportunities, overlook the long-term effects of early overseas education, which may include loss of cultural identity, weakened family ties, and a disconnect from core values.

He stressed the need for students to attain a level of maturity before studying abroad, urging parents to allow their children to complete their first degree in Nigeria.

“Allow your children and wards to acquire their first degree in Nigeria; otherwise, you may have unwittingly donated them to the devil,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor noted that his stance is based on personal conviction, revealing that he declined two opportunities to send his own children abroad for early education, insisting they complete their undergraduate studies in Nigeria — a decision he said yielded positive outcomes.

He added that several parents who sent their children abroad at a young age are now grappling with challenges, as the children often adopt lifestyles and attitudes that create tension within their families.

Oguntunde also drew attention to the broader national impact, stating that early migration for education contributes to the loss of Nigeria’s human capital, while maintaining that local universities are capable of providing solid academic foundations.

In his remarks, the Registrar of the university, Mr Omololu Adegbenro, assured stakeholders that all programmes offered by the institution are fully accredited by the National Universities Commission.

He specifically highlighted the Nursing programme, noting that it equips graduates with multiple academic and professional certifications, enhancing their competitiveness both locally and internationally.

Also speaking, the Bursar, Mr Olusegun Ajeigbe, disclosed that the university operates a flexible fee structure alongside welfare support systems to assist students facing financial difficulties.

The University Librarian, Dr Ayooluwa Aregbesola, stated that the institution runs a modern, technology-driven library system that ensures seamless access to academic resources for both students and faculty.

Responding, participating secondary school administrators commended the initiative, describing the engagement as timely and impactful.

They noted that such interactions help bridge the gap between secondary and tertiary education, while guiding parents and students toward making informed academic decisions.

They also called for sustained collaboration, stressing that stronger ties between schools and universities would boost confidence in Nigeria’s higher education system.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has strongly denounced the killing of residents during a Palm Sunday attack in Jos, describing the incident as unacceptable and a reflection of the deteriorating security situation in the country.

In a statement released on Monday and signed by its President, Daniel Okoh, the association condemned the violence that occurred on March 29, 2026, in Angwan Rukuba, Gari Ya Waye area of Jos North Local Government Area in Plateau State.

Okoh expressed deep concern over the attack, noting the pain and devastation inflicted on the Christian community.

He said, “Palm Sunday is meant to be a day of peace, hope, and reflection. Instead, it became a day of bloodshed. Innocent Nigerians—men, women, and children—were hunted and killed in cold blood. Let us be clear: this is not just tragic; it is unacceptable.”

According to CAN, reports indicate that the attackers, described as armed men, invaded the community in large numbers and disguised themselves in uniforms resembling those of security operatives before launching an assault on unsuspecting residents.

“Lives were cut short in minutes. Families have been shattered. A community has been traumatised,” the statement read.

The association said the incident raises serious concerns about the safety of citizens and the ability of security agencies to prevent such attacks, particularly during important religious events.

“We mourn. We grieve. But we must also speak the truth. How did we get here? How is it that people can no longer feel safe in their own homes? How is it that, even on a sacred day, communities are left exposed to such terror?” Okoh queried.

CAN further noted that Nigerians are increasingly frustrated with recurring incidents of violence and routine official responses, stressing the need for concrete action against those responsible.

“Those responsible for this atrocity must be found, arrested, and made to face justice—swiftly and decisively. Anything less will only deepen the sense that life in our country is no longer protected,” the CAN president stated.

He also described the reported use of fake military uniforms by the attackers as alarming, warning that such tactics could erode public confidence in security institutions if not properly addressed.

“It strikes at the very heart of public trust and must be thoroughly investigated. Our security institutions must not only respond; they must stay ahead of these threats,” he added.

While acknowledging the efforts of the Plateau State Government, the association insisted that more effective and lasting security measures must be put in place to safeguard lives and property.

“The people of Plateau, and indeed all Nigerians, deserve lasting security, not periodic reassurance,” the statement noted.

CAN also called on Christians to remain cautious during the Holy Week, urging them to combine prayer with vigilance and cooperation with security agencies.

“Be prayerful, but also be vigilant. Stay alert. Work with security agencies and local authorities. Look out for one another,” Okoh urged.

He concluded by calling for national reflection and immediate steps to end the recurring cycle of violence across the country.

“A nation cannot keep bleeding like this and expect to move forward. We owe the dead justice. We owe the living protection. And we owe our future a country where no community wakes up to gunfire on a sacred day,” he said.
