Topic: COURAGEOUS FAITH
Text: Luke 23:50-56
23:50 Now behold, there was a man named Joseph, a council member, a good and just man.
23:51 He had not consented to their decision and deed. He was from Arimathea, a city of the Jews, who himself was also waiting for the kingdom of God.
23:52 This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus
23:53 Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a tomb that was hewn out of the rock, where no one had ever lain before.
23:54 That day was the Preparation, and the Sabbath drew near.’
23:55 And the women who had come with Him from Galilee followed after, and they observed the tomb and how His body was laid.
23:56 Then they returned and prepared spices and fragrant oils. And they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment.
STUDY:
Our text today describes the burial of Jesus Christ, highlighting the piety and courage of Joseph of Arimathea, a member of the Sanhedrin, whohad not consented to the council’s decision to crucify Jesus (Luke 23:50-51). He went to Pilate and requested Jesus’ body, demonstrating his faith and willingness to defy the authorities. Joseph wrapped Jesus’ body in linen cloth and spices, following Jewish burial customs (Luke 23:54-56, John 19:39-40). Women came from Galilee and accompanied him as he laid Jesus in a new tomb, cut out of rock, which belonged to him.
Despite the risk to his reputation, Joseph took a bold stand for Jesus, showing that true discipleship often involves courage and commitmet even in the face of fear. The Lord wants us all to take a stand for Him in this hostile world. Do you have such courageous faith like Joseph? Are you willing to stand up for what is right, even if it means going against the majority. This from of commitment is hard to come by in our generation. But it can start with you. The more people are not ashamed of their faith, the more it will challenge others as well.
Prayer:
Lord, give me the grace to stand for what is right and be courageous in the face of adversity. Amen.
