Topic: THE REWARD OF EVIL DOERS

Text: Micah 2:1-7

2:1 Woe to those who devise iniquity, And [a]work out evil on their beds! At morning light they practice it, Because it is in the power of their hand.

2:2 They covet fields and take them by violence, Also houses, and seize them. So they oppress a man and his house, A man and his inheritance.

2:3 Therefore thus says the Lord: “Behold, against this family I am devising disaster, From which you cannot remove your necks; Nor shall you walk haughtily, For this is an evil time.

2:4 In that day one shall take up a proverb against you, And lament with a bitter lamentation, saying:
‘We are utterly destroyed! He has changed the [b]heritage of my people; How He has removed it from me! To [c]a turncoat He has divided our fields.’ ”

2:5 Therefore you will have no [d]one to determine boundaries by lot
In the assembly of the Lord.

2:6 “Do not prattle,” you say to those who [e]prophesy. So they shall not prophesy [f]to you; [g]They shall not return insult for insult.

2:7 You who are named the house of Jacob: “Is the Spirit of the Lord restricted? Are these His doings? Do not My words do good To him who walks uprightly?

STUDY:

Micah saw the corruption of Israel’s law courts and explained that God was not pleased with the situation. God, in His justice, usually brings disaster upon evil doers and repays them in their own coin (Prov. 11:21; Psa. 37:9a). To work out evil on one’s bed is an intentional sin. Such sins include greed, covetousness, violence, oppression, fraud, cheating, and injustice.

There are some sins we never commit because we are never in a place where we can commit them; our ability makes our thoughts pure, and to stand for Jesus even when we have all the freedom and privileges to commit sin, is a plus in our Christian journey. Fights over family inheritance are on the increase, and this is because people are not truthful. Proverbs 22:28 talks about the importance of the ancient landmark. Evil doers may try to silence the people of God but the Lord will surely judge them and reward them with evil, and the righteous will be vindicated. It is therefore essential not to envy them. We must endeavour to do what is right always.

Prayer

Purge my heart of any evil thought, O Lord, in Jesus’ Name. Amen!
