TOPIC: IT IS BY FAITH, NOT BY THE LAW
Text: Galatians 3:1-9
3:1 O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you [a]that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed [b]among you as crucified?
3:2 This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
3:3 Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh?
3:4 Have you suffered so [c]many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain?
3:5 Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?—
3:6 just as Abraham “believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.”
3:7 Therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham.
3:8 And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, “In you all the nations shall be blessed.”
3:9So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham.
STUDY:
One basic problem of the Church in Galatia was that of soaking in the observance of the Law and making it mandatory for the Christian faith. In other words, they claimed to have surrendered to Christ but refused to let go their previous traditions and beliefs. Paul addressed this issue clearly. He referred to them as “foolish Galatians.” Paul felt pain that in spite of the fact that the Galatians were aware of how Jesus Christ sacrificed Himself for their redemption, they still chose to follow the observance of the law instead of standing solely in the faith of Jesus Christ (vv. 1-6).
Beloved, our faith in Jesus Christ is the anchor that will cause all things to stand. There are different places of worship today which practise unscriptural beliefs. They combine all sorts of things with Christianity and the innocent ones follow them without a second thought. It is true that men love darkness rather than light because their deeds are evil (John 3:19) but you are not unaware of the price that bought you from darkness and translated you into the marvelous light of God (1Cor. 6:20). Jesus Christ did it all. Therefore, your faith in Him alone guarantees eternal salvation. Do not allow anyone to deceive you. Just keep following Jesus Christ; you can never miss your way if you do.
Prayer:
Father; strengthen me to always look by faith unto The Lamb of Calvary. Amen.
