The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has announced a three-day nationwide fasting and prayer programme over rising insecurity, bloodshed, economic hardship and concerns surrounding Nigeria’s political future ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The programme is scheduled to hold from May 22 to May 24, 2026.

According to the Fellowship, the initiative is aimed at seeking divine intervention for peace, healing, national stability, economic recovery and credible elections amid growing uncertainty in the country.

The decision was disclosed in a statement issued by the PFN National Publicity Secretary, Sylvanus Ukafia, following a meeting of the Fellowship’s National Executive Council.

The statement explained that the resolution was reached after extensive deliberations and prayers on the current state of the nation and the role of the Church during what it described as a critical period for Nigeria.

“This is a defining moment for the Church to rise in unity and intercession for the nation,” the Fellowship stated.

PFN expressed concern over continued violence, attacks on communities and places of worship, as well as worsening economic hardship affecting many Nigerians.

“We believe that as the Church unites in prayer, God will intervene in the affairs of our nation and grant Nigeria peace, healing, stability, and a new season of hope,” the statement added.

The Fellowship noted that the programme would coincide with the observance of Global Pentecost Day and would be anchored on the biblical passage in 2 Chronicles 7:14, which calls on believers to humble themselves, pray and seek God’s intervention for healing of the land.

PFN urged churches, pastors, Christian leaders, workers, youths, women and believers across the country to participate actively in the exercise.

According to the Fellowship, Friday, May 22, and Saturday, May 23, will be observed through fasting and prayers in homes, churches and local assemblies nationwide.

It added that on Sunday, May 24, Christians would gather at designated venues across various states for a united national prayer assembly to conclude the programme.

The PFN said prayers during the period would focus on divine intervention for Nigeria, restoration of peace and security, an end to bloodshed and criminality, economic relief for citizens, wisdom for leaders, and peaceful and credible elections in 2027.

The Fellowship further called on pastors and Christian leaders to mobilise their congregations and networks for full participation, stressing that Nigeria remains a nation with great potential despite its current challenges.
