Topic: HOUSE OF PRAYER
Text: Luke 19:45-48
19:45 Then He went into the temple and began to drive out those who bought and sold in it,
19:46 saying to them, “It is written, ‘My house is a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’ ”
19:47 And He was teaching daily in the temple. But the chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people sought to destroy Him,
19:48 and were unable to do anything; for all the people were very attentive to hear Him.
STUDY:
Jesus Christ went into the temple; a place dedicated to God for worship, and discovered that men had turned it to a market for their business. He was so displeased that He had to cast them out. He also declared that the house of God shall be a place of prayer. By this He meant that the purpose of the temple was for men and women of whatever status to come in and have a good communication with God, without interruption. It is not strange to see distorted men turn the church into business where they sell the gospel in our day.
This has always been one of the tricks of the devil against the souls of men. Today, we see so called men of God sell holy oil, holy water, handkerchiefs, etc., and unsuspecting church members are deceived into believing that with the purchase and use of those materials, their prayers are better heard by God. People are meant to pay certain amounts of money as ‘seed’ before prayers can be offered unto God on their behalf. This is a deviation! The temple is a place of prayer, and the turning of same into a market, attracts God’s displeasure.
Prayer:
O God, deliver me from the error of turning your house into selfish use in Jesus’Name. Amen.
