The Nigerian music community is mourning the death of Ifunanya Nwangene, an Abuja-based singer who reportedly lost her life after a snake bite.
Ifunanya, a soprano vocalist with the Amemuso Choir, died on Saturday at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abuja.
Her passing was confirmed by the Amemuso Choir in an official statement released on Sunday and signed by the choir’s Music Director, Sam Ezugwu.

”We regret to announce the sudden demise of our beloved soprano, Ifunanya Nwangene, who passed away yesterday, 31st January 2026, at the Federal Medical Centre due to a snake bite,” the statement partly read.
The choir described her death as a painful blow to Abuja’s fast growing music scene, noting that she was a gifted performer whose career showed great promise.
They added that Ifunanya was an emerging talent preparing to reach a wider audience, and her unique voice and warm spirit would be greatly missed.
