Church of Nigeria Issues Detailed Prayer Guide For National Day of Prayer

The leadership of the Church of Nigeria recently declared a nationwide Day of Prayer to address the urgent spiritual and national challenges facing the country. 

The day of prayer is scheduled for Friday, 29th of August, 2025.

The call has urged all Bishops, clergy, and lay members to participate.

In a communique made available on the 28th August 2025, a comprehensive guide was outlined for intercession, focusing on the Church, families, and the nation.

The communique reads as follows:

Day of prayer for church of nigeria, our families, and our nation.

We request all bishops, clergy and laity to pray (observe prayers at 12 noon, 3 pm and 6pm as god gives us help). Joel 2:17; psalm 68:1-3;  125:3).  

 PRAYER POINTS/GUIDE

1. Thank God immensely for:

 a. His grace that has sustained this Church over the years. 

b. all the impacts made both at local and international levels. 

c.  the health of our church leaders at all levels. 

d. the growth of the Anglican Church in almost all communities in Nigeria. 

e. for all arms, organisations and foreign missions. 

2. Confess and bring repentance for:

 a. the sins of spiritual lethargy, apathy, recklessness and abuse of grace. 

b. materialism, worldliness and canality in the holy place. 

c. division, clannishness, tribalism and nepotism. 

d. immorality, decline in values, corruption and cluelessness. 

3. Pray the success of upcoming programmes:

a. Standing Committee at Ekiti, September 15-19, 2025. 

b. World Mission Congress at Abuja, September 29- October 5, 2025 

c. DIVCCON at Abuja, November, 2025. 

d. GAFCON Mini Conference in Nigeria, March 3-6, 2026 

e. National ACM Train the Trainers (TTT), August 31- September 4. General Conference, September 4-7, 2025 in Ika Diocese, Delta State. 

f. Church of Nigeria Prayer Leadership Retreat at Enugu- Ngwo, October, 7-10, 2025 

4. Pray for God’s guidance and peace in:  

  a. Creation and inauguration of new dioceses. 

b. Election of Bishops. 

c. mobilization of political parties towards 2027 General Elections. 

5. Pray earnestly against:

a. Sudden death of Church workers or their wives in active ministry. 

b. Kidnap attempts on Church leaders. 

c. Crisis in dioceses. 

d. Theft/ robbery attack on churches and vicarages/ Bishops courts. 

e. Insurgency, banditry and terrorism in Nigeria. 

f. Diversion of attention of those in power. 

g. Onslaught of satanism, revival of idolatry, cultism and drug addiction, especially among youths. 

h. Forces that instigate communal clashes and blood shed. 

6. Pray for fresh move of God for:  

a. Revival across the continent of Africa, especially in Nigeria  

b. The emergence of Africa to take her place in global development. 

c. The rising of new crop of politicians with godly mindset. 

d. To subdue all international conspiracies against Nigeria and her citizens. 

e. To forestall imminent natural and/ or national disaster.

 LORD in Your mercy: Hear our prayers. 

NOTE:

All Churches, Prayer Teams in all Dioceses and Provinces be mobilised for Prayers.
