TOPIC: BE HONEST IN PRAYER

TEXT: Psalm 6:1-10 (NKJV)

  • 6:1 To the Chief Musician. With stringed instruments. On an eight-stringed harp. A Psalm of David. O LORD, do not rebuke me in Your anger, Nor chasten me in Your hot displeasure.
  • 6:2 Have mercy on me, O LORD, for I [am] weak; O LORD, heal me, for my bones are troubled.
  • 6:3 My soul also is greatly troubled; But You, O LORD — how long?
  • 6:4 Return, O LORD, deliver me! Oh, save me for Your mercies’ sake!
  • 6:5 For in death [there is] no remembrance of You; In the grave who will give You thanks?
  • 6:6 I am weary with my groaning; All night I make my bed swim; I drench my couch with my tears.
  • 6:7 My eye wastes away because of grief; It grows old because of all my enemies.
  • 6:8 Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity; For the LORD has heard the voice of my weeping.
  • 6:9 The LORD has heard my supplication; The LORD will receive my prayer.
  • 6:10 Let all my enemies be ashamed and greatly troubled; Let them turn back [and] be ashamed suddenly.

STUDY

Today’s Psalm recognizes that healing and deliverance come from God alone. In the first seven verses, the psalmist makes an appeal for God’s intervention in his situation. It shows he was in distress, portraying himself as someone in dire need of God’s mercy and unfailing love, without which he counts himself as dead.

Verses 8-10 depict a sudden change—having made his requests to God, the psalmist is confident that his sorrow will be turned into joy. He rebukes his enemies as he asserts that God has heard and answered his cry for mercy. He boldly proclaims that his enemies, shamed and dismayed, will suddenly turn back.

Dearly beloved, always remember to turn to the Lord in humility and make your honest requests known to Him in prayer. Prayer is the key and the channel through which we communicate with God. As believers, through the blood and righteousness of Christ, we can go to God and plead with Him for pardon and mercy.

One of the things a believer must know is that God’s mercy is available each new day. Do not allow the devil to distract you with storms. Go to God in prayer, settle with your Father, and the devil will be put to shame.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, please intervene in my life and put my enemies to shame, Amen!
